SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Data that will be produced from this study will be used to show the comparison between the

gender differences in fear of missing out among HUMSS Students at the University of Cebu.

These data will provide us insights into the topic of gender differences and their effects on the

respondent’s academic behavior. This research will also be beneficial to teachers and

administrators because they will be able to understand the gender differences and the issue of

fear of missing out among their students. They can easily help out with the students and how to

handle their differences. In addition, it is hoped that this project will be the opening way for further

research about differences in gender and its correlation with the fear of missing out, especially on

students.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

This study focuses on the gender differences in fear of missing out among HUMSS Students in

the University of Cebu. The data collection will be conducted to 30 randomly selected students in

the Senior High School HUMSS track at the University of Cebu Pri. This study will not cover all

factors that might affect gender differences in fear of missing out but will touch its academic aspect

more. The study would be done through the questionnaire to the respondents as a survey and

reference. By this strategy, the researchers will be able to know the gender differences in fear of

missing out among HUMSS students at the University of Cebu.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

A total of 30 HUMSS students of the University of Cebu-Pri responded to the questionnaire, which

is done online. This is comprised of 15 male participants and 15 female participants currently

enrolled in the track HUMSS at the University of Cebu-Pri. Participants were recruited during the

online class set-up via the Facebook Messenger platform, which asked for dissemination among

their classmates. The snowball method is adapted in this study as a

recruitment strategy. The participation for the respondents online contained a Google Forms link

for participants to click on in order to fill out the questionnaire. Beforehand, the participants are

informed of the aim of the research, its scope, and the measures to be used in generating the

data. Participation in this study was voluntary, nothing forced, and confidentiality and anonymity

were guaranteed. The participants have the freedom to withdraw from the research and inform

the researchers at any time. No specific inclusion criteria were given aside from the fact of being

enrolled and currently studying at the University of Cebu-Pri under the track HUMSS.

The researchers have adapted the FOMO Scale. The FOMO scale was used to assess people's

anxieties, worries, and anxiety about being out of touch with their social circles' activities,

experiences, and discussions (e.g., "I fear my friends have more enjoyable experiences than

me"). FOMO is a 10-item measure ranging from 1 (not at all true of me) to 5 on a 5-point Likert

scale (extremely true of me). The higher the score, the greater the fear of missing out. In the

current investigation, the Cronbach alpha was 0.83.
