X. Rationale:
The teaching – learning process greatly depends on the instructional
materials utilized by the teacher. If the materials are readily available and
students can access all of it, learning is highly possible. Learning materials
are an integral part of the learning process ( Seven and Engin 2007) as it
will give meaningful learning experience by providing concrete activities and
visual representation of what students need to learn( Afolabi, 2019).

One of the main features of K to 12 is the delivery of the lessons through


Contextualization and Localization. The legal basis for this is stipulated in
RA 10533 Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 states that “ The curriculum
shall be Contextualized and global”. The curriculum shall be flexible enough to
enable and allow schools to LOCALIZE, INDIGENIZE, and enhance ( the
curriculum) based on their respective educational and social contexts.

Teachers play a significant role in the development of learning materials


suitable for the needs of the learners. If the students were put in an actual
learning environment, letting them manipulate, relate, and adapt to various
learning opportunities and resources available within the locality or
community, profound learning will be assured and realized.

This school- based INSET Training through participatory workshop will serve
as a help in establishing a culture of embracing the curriculum education
localizing and contextualizing learning materials effectively and for the
better learning outcome of the learners. Consequently, this will give
potential solution for the teachers and in adoption of the basic learning
continuity plan all through out the teaching endeavors.

XI. Terminal Objective:


To give participatory workshop for science teachers towards improvisation of
localized and contextualized instructional materials.

XII. Enabling Objectives:


 To gain functional and operational understanding of the localization and
contextualization.
 To discuss the significance of localizing and contextualizing the
curriculum and the use of learning materials.
 To identify ways in localizing/ contextualizing your materials in teaching
science and other related subjects.
 To develop a localized/ contextualized-based lesson plan, instructional
materials used in teaching- learning.
 To demonstrate knowledge and skills on preparation of localized
instructional materials appropriate for the diverse needs of learners.
XIII. Expected Outputs:

Developed and demonstrated the knowledge and skills in preparation of


localized and contextualized instructional materials relevant to the
improvement of learning.
