Activity 2: - MAKING A WAYANG KULIT PUPPET
Materials: Pattern or template Fasteners or any fastening material Old cardstock/
cartolina/ cardboard Wooden sticks or wooden skewers Any coloring material
String or Nylon Cord Cutter/scissors Clear Gloss (Optional) Single hole punch or
press punch Gold/silver Doilies
Procedures: 1.The student will draw or trace the pattern of a character (Bima) on
cardstock illustration board (or any thick, soft cardboard material).If there is no
such character available, the student can make her/his own pattern
2. Patterns can be enlarged.
3. Cut out all the pieces of the pattern and color (paint) them.
4. Using a single-hole puncher or the tip of knitting needle, punch a hole in all the
little circles on the pattern. You can also add extra holes on the joints for
movement.
5. Attach some fasteners. If the ends from a large fastener are too long, just fold it
back on itself or trim them with a pair of scissors.
6. Attach the main part of your puppet to a stick using adhesive tape.
7. Attach a piece of string to the stick using adhesive tape. Wrap the string around
the wrist of the puppet.
8. Add a coat of clear gloss varnish to the puppet. (Optional)

ACTIVITY 3: - MAKING A SOUTHEAST ASIAN STATUE MODEL
Materials: Soap
Cutter
Knife/any carving material
Pencil
Directions: 1. Choose a bar of soap. (Any soap will work)
2. Choose a knife to use. Soap is fairly soft, so a sharp knife is not absolutely
necessary. (Plastic knives, spoons, popsicle sticks would also work)
3. Draw an outline of your carving on the side of the soap. You can either draw
the outline first using a pencil or directly use a knife, orange wood stick or
toothpick to scrape the outline into the soap.
4. Remove the soap outside the outline using small silvers or chips. Make sure to
scrape away only small portions at a time, as it would be easier to remove than to
put back an over scraped portion. Cutting off too much would cause the the soap
to break off into chunks.
5. Add details to the inside of your outline to refine the design further.
6. When the carving is finished, wet your finger and rub the surface of the soap to
create a smooth finish. Allow to dry and harden for a day.

ACTIVITY 4: MAKING A WAU KITE (MALAY KITE)
Materials: Colored garbage bag Bamboo sticks yarn Paint brushes Scotch tape
Latex paint/any paint Metallic paper/colored paper White glue Cutter
Directions: 1. Use one stick s the center of the kite
2. a. Take two sticks and tie both ends together.
b. Pull the two sticks apart into an oval shape.
c. Tie it to the upper part of the main stick.
3. a. Take another two sticks and tie both ends together tightly.
b. Bend the two sticks into a crescent shape.
c. Tie it to the lower part of the spine stick.
d. Tie more string or you may add bamboo sticks to support the kite frame. 4. a.
Place the completed kite frame on the colored garbage bag and trace the outline
of the oval and the crescent.
b. Draw a 1cm border edge around the outline.
5. Design your kite with latex paint.6. Cut out the metallic paper with floral
designs.
7. a. Paste the cutout metallic design on your kite.
b. Cut thin strips of colored garbage and paste them and paste them on as kite
tails.
8. You may decorate your kite with a glitter.

ACTIVITY 3: SOAP SCULPTURE
Materials:
Soap
Knife
Cutter
Pencil
Old newspaper/Cardboard
Procedure:
1. Choose a bar of soap. Any soap will work.
2. Choose a knife to use but knives are not necessary to prevent any accidents.
3. Draw an outline of your carving on one side of the soap, or the outline first
using a pencil or directly use a knife.
4. Make sure to scrape away only small portions at a time cutting of too much
would cause the soap to break off into chunks.
5. Add details on your work to improve your design, and then allow drying and
hardening for a day.
