hard to plant some food to make money.

10. How many pounds did Chris lose in two months?

He loses 20 pounds of weight in two months.

Essay. Answer the following questions briefly and concisely. 100 words or less.
(10 points each)

1. At 6:35 – 8:20; Listen carefully for the two things they are doing to simulate the
life of the local people in Pena Blanca. Describe each thing and then describe
how close you think it comes to approximating the conditions that the local
people live in.

It is close to living like they are in reality of poverty in terms of food, shelter, and water. The load of
their work is very convincing. And they start to build their own businesses, like planting some food, and
they also try to make loans in the bank. Zach and his friends make the film very realistic. They show us
how people live on a dollar a day. Our life in the city is much easier than theirs. They act as if they live
there a long time and he makes a lot of friends in the village.

2. At 16:10; compare and contrast what it means to be “hungry” in Pena Blanca

with what it means to be “hungry” in the place you live.

When we say that they are hungry, it means that they don’t have anything to eat, or if there’s food, it is
exact. They have no other sources of food. They need to borrow some money from their friends to have
food because the money that they earn every day is not enough for them. And I describe hungry in
Magdalena, my hometown. Hungry means not hungry because lots of people here are always hungry after
eating. They say that they are hungry. That’s why lots of food here in my place is wasted.

3. Just like the guys learn to appreciate bananas more than before, what are three
things you can have a better appreciation for after watching this documentary.
List them down and explain why you think you shouldn’t take them for granted.

After watching the video, I realized how important our food and shelter are. In the movie, Zach had
rashes on a different parts of his body and I felt guilty because I wasted lots of food. In Pena, black food
is like gold because it is very important every single day, as well as the water that they drink. Zach gets
sick because of the bacteria from the water that they drink, and Zach needs to go to the hospital to take
medicine. It is hard for an ordinary person to live in Pena Blanca.

4. On Chris’ Day 56 journal, he asked “what can I do to help”? Create a plan of

action that world significantly increase the standard of living for people living on
one dollar per day (It doesn’t necessarily need to include donating money).

I choose to have the same treatment of labor in rural and urban areas. In that way, it will help lots of
people because they won’t need to go to urban areas to get some bigger profit. They will be able to sell
their products in rural areas without having to lose money. And for the farmers, I recommend selling their
products to the government so that they can be protected from exploitative people. In that way, businesses
will invest not only in urban areas, and people in rural areas will benefit more.
