AY OKAY!

WATER STATION
By: ALBERTO P. ALEGADO JR

Introduction

Water is a necessity especially the clean and sanitary one. With the rising cases of dirty water

related diseases in our chosen place, people will always go for the safest water to drink. As per observation

in Barangay Tignapoloan, Cagayan de Oro City, there are households who pay delivery charge for P75 per

5-Gallon of water coming from city proper, too expensive for a potable water.

The proponents of this study consider this as an opportunity not just to maximize capital, generate

profit and gain experience in this kind of venture but most importantly to address the rising need of drinking

water of the community.

Water refilling business is rampant in urban areas, the market is already saturated, but not in rural

towns as water sources for these places are perceived to be safe, but actually they are not. New entrants to

this kind of business in rural arears are very limited as this demands technical know-how, adequate capital

expenditure and tedious compliance of permits. Bringing water refilling station to this hinterland part of

Cagayan de Oro City is a promising investment as this will not only meet the goals and objectives of the

stakeholders but also it is a value-adding venture, undoubtedly beneficial for the people of Man-ai,

Tignapoloa, Cagayan de Oro City. Safe water means a lot, it means life.
Objectives

The primary objective of this project is to achieve the highest return of investment for the

proponent. With water refilling business, the investor has high hope of earning good profit out of it. On a

more impactful reason, it is also one of his desires to give back to the community by providing supplying the

safest, low-cost and best drinking water in town.

Business Background

Name of the Business AY OKAY! WATER STATION

Business Description Water refilling business located in Man-ai, Tignapoloan, Cagayan de Oro
City, a business primarily established to address the need of safe and
potable water of Higaonons of the barangay.

Weakness Start-up capital is high.
Tedious legal requirements

As my business is strategically located in Sitio Man-ai, Tignapoloan, Cagayan de Oro City where

the source of potable and clear water is almost scarce, it will be the very first establishment of its kind.

In terms of industry rivalry, market share is forecasted at 100% because there are no existing refilling

stations in the location. The only source of water is from deep well and brook which are not safe for
drinking. With proper marketing, the business will attract large scale of potential customers, making the

business in control of the price and its product.

Entering this kind of venture is quite challenging as it involves technical know-how on the process

of ensuring that the water will cause no harm towards its consumers. Start-up capital is high as it requires

building, machinery and equipment and permits to operate. Hence, threat of new entrants is low

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

Aquabert Water Refilling Station project will be following stages of project management. These are

initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and closing to have a smooth conduct in completing this

business. Figure 1.2 shows the overall time frame of the project.

The proponent is targeting to accomplish the initiation stage for 15 days, planning for also 15 days,

execution is for 150 days as this is the most time-consuming stage for it is the actualization of the project,

monitoring is for 90 days which determines how the business is doing so far. Closing stage is not reflected

in the chart as Aquabert will be adopting a going-concern principle.

Specific details for each stage will be presented in the succeeding parts of this proposal.

Table 1.1 shows the pre-operating cost of the project. Water refilling station ensures excellent

quality of water. With this, the proponent plans to have his own building for the station. The location is said

to be at the hometown where he has his own parcel of land. Such land will be utilized for the construction of

the building, occupying 15 square meters of the area.

This kind of business is quite common to urban areas where the competition is so stiff. Hence,

there are existing suppliers of equipment in the market that offer good package deal of around P150,000-

P450,000. The proponent plans to have a 24-Level Filtration Purified Reverse Osmosis, considered to be a

high-end water treatment system.

Logistics, that includes transport of construction materials and equipment, is also an utmost

concern as the location is 20 kilometers away from Cagayan de Oro City proper. Permits pertain to

business legal requirements as well as sanitation certification should be secured to confirm the legitimacy

of the business. Marketing effort and activities are essential especially if the business is new as they attract

customers to buy product and avail services from the business. Thus, budget allocation for this one is

highly significant.

Figure 1.3 presents the people responsible for each stage of the project management.

Initiating and planning stages are executed by the owner. Execution is the most challenging part as crucial

tasks have to be accomplished to actualize what is planned. Therefore, the owner seeks helps and

guidance from the supplier for the orientation, preparation and installment of the equipment. A contractor

will be hired for the physical set-up of the station. Monitoring will be done by the owner as if the preceding

stages are properly carried out. These steps are still in the pre-operating stage, so the owner will not hire

yet personnel until the completion.

FIVE STAGES OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Figure 1.4 below gives the glimpse of the process that this project will follow. Generally, it has 5

stages: Initiating, Planning, Execution, Monitoring and Closing.

Initiating stage includes identifying suitable business project which is a water refilling station named

Aquabert and will be located at Tignapoloan, Cagayan de Oro City. The proponent believes that this is the

best business venture he is willing to take risk because this is what the said community needs, a safe

drinking water for everyone. This business proposal is part of this stage with the objective of determining

the feasibility of the project and to attract potential investors to aid the initial start-up capital.
Planning stage comes up with a blueprint of what the project is all about and how it is going to be

completed for the specific period and availability of resources. Aquabert has its mission of providing the

best and safest water in town and a vision of establishing trust and loyalty for its customers. Planning

includes the identification of specific tasks to be done and the persons responsible to finish the tasks.

Important things like market needs analysis, pre-operation, actual operation, and financial management are

salient points should be considered in the planning stage.

In the execution stage, market study is done prior to the actual consultation from the supplier. The

owner will be closely coordinating with the supplier in terms of water samples for analysis and study to

determine the adequate equipment to be used. Getting into water refilling business is not that common as

compared to other industry, one area of utmost consideration is the availability of suppliers for starters.

Equipment like water softener tank, filters, reverse osmosis membrane, sterilizer and generator are hard to

find. In fact, there are only few companies in Cagayan de Oro City who are selling this equipment. Although

the station supplies in day-to-day operation can be customized and materials are available in the market,

generally, the bargaining power of suppliers is high. WaterMax is NCR-based supplier who caters refilling

station system nationwide. They have a certain package that includes sampling, lay-outing, delivering, and

installing the equipment. While waiting for the sample result, construction of the 15 square meter building is

underway. These tasks are set to be completed for Five Months together with securing legal requirements

and other related activities.

Monitoring comes as soon as the execution commences, diligently following the set schedule and

maximizing the given resources. Communication with the suppliers and contractor is critical for the success

of this project.
