I. RATIONALE

Most of the universities and colleges were established by virtue of the national legislation.
Its mandate is to serve its service area through the provision of quality and affordable
education. Aside from instruction, these learning institutions are mandated to perform research
and extension as well as production.

To meet above functions, every learning institution has to establish its own vision and
mission that is in harmony with the national, regional, provincial and local development goals,
thrusts, policies and directions.

The College of Arts and Science (CAS) similarly has to establish its goals in support with the
University vision and mission. With these in mind, all activities, plans and development
directions are conducted, implemented, and prepared toward the achievement of these guiding
principles.

Guided by the University vision and mission and goals of the College, the objectives of the
curricular programs (in terms of outcomes) were also prepared.

To determine the congruence of all the activities, plans, and development directions of the
College and its curricular program with the University vision and mission, a continuing study on
the acceptance and awareness of the vision and mission of the institution, goals of the college,
and objectives of the programs by its clients and other stakeholders has been conducted.

II. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The general objective of the study is to evaluate the level of awareness and acceptance of
the students, administration, faculty, support staff, alumni, parents, cooperating agencies /
linkages and the general public on the University vision and mission, goals of the College, and
objectives of the curricular program offered by CAS.
Specifically, the study aims to:

1. Document the level of awareness and acceptance of the target groups with the
University vision and mission, goals of the College, and objectives of the curricular
programs of the College.
2. Establish better relationship with the students, faculty, support staff, administration,
parents, and cooperating agencies / linkages, and;
3. Identify new strategies for disseminating VMGO.

III. METHODOLOGY

The respondents. The respondents of this study came from each of the target groups
(engineering students, faculty, support staff, parents, alumni, cooperating agencies,
linkages, and general public) of the University Main Campus.

The respondents were drawn from the College / University Registrar, Human Resource
Management Office (HRMO) and Office of the CAS Dean.

Sampling of the respondents. Convenience sampling was chosen as the sampling

technique where the respondents were selected because of their convenient accessibility
and proximity to the researchers.

Data collection. In order to obtain the desired information, the same survey in the
previous study was also used. A one-to-one interview with the respondents was done to
ensure the validity of gathered information especially with the target groups.

Development of the survey questionnaire. The questionnaire is composed of two (2)

parts, namely: a) Profile of the Respondents that lists the name; category or grouping of the
respondents into: students, faculty, support staff, administration alumni, cooperating
agencies / linkages, and the public; and the number of years at / or working with the
university and college; and b) Questions that measure the extent of VMGO dissemination,
awareness and acceptance.

Data Gathering. The different data that were gathered during the conduct of the study
were the following: (a) number of respondents representing the engineering students by
curriculum program; faculty member; support staff; administration; cooperating agencies /
linkages; and alumni; (b) level of information dissemination, awareness and acceptance of
the University vision and mission, College goals and objectives of the programs.

Statistical Analysis. Percentage means and means were used to analyze the date
collected.
V. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
A. Profile of the respondents

Table 1 lists the respondents of the study on the level of awareness and acceptance of the
University vision and mission, the goals of the College of Arts and Science (CAS) and
the objectives of the following curricular programs of the College: Bachelor of Science in
Political Science (BAPS), Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) , Bachelor of
Science in Applied Mathematics major in Statistics(BSAM), Bachelor of Arts in English
Language Studies (BAELS), Bachelor of Arts in Journalism(ABJOURN), Bachelor of
Science in Biology(BSBIO), Masters of Science in Biology (MS BIO). Another
respondent of the study on the level of awareness and acceptance of the University and
vision and mission, the goals of the College of Graduate School and College of Arts and
Science of the curricular programs, the administration, the faculty members and support
staff of the College Figure 1 shows that most of the respondents came from the students,
equivalent to 81.15 percent followed by the parents (8.71 percent), alumni (3.59 percent),
faculty (2.66 percent), support staff (1.84 percent), cooperating agencies/linkages (1.33
percent) and the least belong the administration with 0.72 percent. Among the students
group, Figure 2 shows that the BSOA students (26.13 percent) represent the bulk of the
group, followed by BCSC students (20.90 percent), followed by BSIE students (18.34
percent), and the least from the group from the MIT students (0.92 percent). This means
that there were more students respondents in the BSOA program of the College compared
to students of other curricular program in this study.
