6. Executive summary: A useful tool that provides an overview of what is contained within the

covers of the SIP report.

EXECUTIVE=a CEO or a Department head or who so ever having authority to implement the

recommendations made by the SIPper(researcher),

SUMMARY=a condensed version or synopsis of the SIP report/thesis

***It follows Management by Exception;.

7. Introduction; This may contain a gist of

 Company Profile

The Background (historical timeline)

The Promoters

 Product line and product features

 Competitors

 Government Policies (relating to the industry)

8. Literature Review

It is the process of reading, analyzing, evaluating, and summarizing the previously published

scholarly material/monographs on the topic taken up for study. This section for the SIP would
mean writing

about the ways in which the organizational realities are similar or different

from theory published already. This will help the SIPper to revisit whole gamut of his exercise

whether or not to proceed with the (title)topic/objective; if yes, what changes can be made in
the(title)topic/objective).

The essentials of management theories surveyed must be annexed in bibliography following

American

Psychological Association, Sixth Edition(APA Manual –link- www.apastyle.org) .

9. Objectives of the study

It is recommended to have one or at the best two objectives. It is better to have a single(main

objective) and others as tertiary objectives, if unavoidable.

Illustration:

To study the influence of different financial ratios in choosing to buy shares of a particular

company
10. Methodology

*Method of data collection #

* Sample Size; In research design, population and sampling are two important terms. A

population is a group of individuals that share common connections. A sample is a subset of the

population. The sample size is the number of individuals in a sample. The more representative

the sample of the population, the more confident the researcher can be in the quality of the

results.

A researcher might want to study the adverse health effects associated with working in a coal

mine. However, it would be impossible to study a large population of coal workers. So, the

researcher would need to narrow down the population and build a sample to collect data. This

sample might be a group of coal workers in one city

Sampling methods are used to select a sample from within a general

population. Proper sampling methods(probability /non probability sampling) are important for

eliminating bias in the selection process.

Common methods of sampling include simple random sampling, systematic sampling, stratified

sampling, multi stage sampling, snow ball sampling, matched random sampling, and panel
sampling.

* Secondary Data: It is the data that have been already collected by and readily available

from other sources. This type of data is generally taken from newspapers, magazines,
bulletins,reports, journals etc.

* Primary Data: It is the data that has not been previously published, i.e. the data is derived

from a new or original research study and collected at the source, e.g., in marketing, it

is information that is obtained directly from first-hand sources by means of surveys, observation

or experimentation.

* Limitations (if any): Although much importance is given to make the study accurate and

meaningful, the following limitations are not justified.

 Limited time is available for the study

 Some items are procured directly from the central office, Mumbai

 Data is kept confidential at the company

 Respondents are biased

11. Analysis & Findings: Use statistical tools for analysis and tables & charts to

demonstrate your findings.

12. Recommendations: Line of action based on data analysis and findings with implications

for the company.

13. Bibliography/References: In-text citations and reference lists should follow American

Psychological Association, Sixth Edition(APA Manual –link- www.apastyle.org), preferably

reverse chronological.
