This assessment correlates with the Early Learning
Goals found at the end of this assessment. These goals
were carefully compiled using many different
resources.
To prepare:
Place all the Portfolio documents (as stated on the instructions sheet) into a bind-
er or folder. Print a data sheet for each student, you will only need 1 for the entire year.
When it comes time to assess students, pull out the folder and date sheet to record. At
the end of each testing period, fill out the Parent Report form. Send home the portfolio
folder and the parent report. Ask parents to return the portfolio after viewing.
Pre-Kindergarten Assessment & Portfolio Instructions
Letter ID (goal: Letter Knowledge): Using the letter ID assessment pages, ask student
what each letter is as you point to it. Consider covering remaining letters with
another piece of paper to reduce distractions. *REPORT ON: DATA SHEET,REPORT
CARD & READING READINESS
Letter Sounds (goal: Letter Knowledge):Using the letter sound assessment pages, ask
student what sound each letter makes as you point to it. Consider covering remaining

Parents & Guardians,
Attached is your child’s pre-kindergarten progress report. Please
remember that this report is a snapshot in time. It reflects the knowledge of
skills your child has chosen to share during one moment in time. The goals within
the report are goals for the end of the year and encompass skills that we are
working towards to get ready for Kindergarten. This progress report helps me
as a teacher to guide instruction and can also help you as a parent to support
learning at home. It is amazing to see how far our children come within one
year. Please take time to look through this report and your child’s portfolio and
celebrate all the wonderful things he or she has accomplished!
