spermiogenesis. The spermatids enter spermiogenesis and at this phase,
the spermatids will undergo morphological changes to become
spermatozoa.

2. What is the average volume of ejaculate and total number of spermatozoa

produced by the following domestic animals?

Species Volume of ejaculate (ml) Total number of

spermatozoa in ejaculate
Dog 1-30 300 million to 2 billion

Cat 0.01-0.7 8-30 million

Goat 0.5 -1.5 1.5 - 5.0 billion

Sheep 0.76 -1.00 2.37 billion

Cattle 9.5 1.89 billion

Horse 50 Several billion

Pig 50 - 400 2.5 - 20 billion

3. How do sperm abnormalities or defects affect animal production?

★ In animal production the defects might affect the ability of sperm to reach
and penetrate an egg. The sperm abnormalities can affect the pregnancy
