SPERMATOGENESIS

ACTIVITY
Examine a section of a testis under LPO and HPO and identify and draw the above mentioned
structures and cells.
Study Questions:

1. What is the function of the interstitial cell of Leydig?


➔ The interstitial cell of leydig also known as Leydig cell is responsible for
the secretion and production of testosterone.

2. What roles do the Sertoli cells play in sperm cell development?


➔ The role of sertoli cells is to provide nutrients and hormones in developing
sperm cells.

3. Illustrate the process of spermatogenesis.

4. Differentiate spermatocytogenesis and spermiogenesis.


➔ Spermatocytogenesis is a proliferative phase whereby spermatogonial
cells multiple by a series of mitotic divisions followed by meiotic divisions
which produces the haploid number of chromosomes . Spermiogenesis is
the maturation process of spermatids to transform into mature sperm cells.
