Chadha is Panjab advisory panel head:Oppn cries foul

The Panjab Government has appointed Aam Admi Party's Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha as chairman of
the advisory committee'' on matters of public intrest'', a notification regarding which was issued last
week. The comittee will not be entitled to any remuneration or perks.'' Chadha an alumnus of the
London School of Economics, is a chartered accountant. He has the experience of working with some big
corporate firms,'' observed a senior official. Originally hailling from Jalandhar, Chadha has served as
Financial Advisor to Delhi Finance Minister Manish Sisodia. '' Chadha is the representative of AAP's Delhi
darbar in Punjab. The move amounts to making Pnjab Kejriwal's colonial outpost,'' Congress leader
Partap Singh Bajwa clamed. The PPCC chief Amrinder Raja Warring, in his tweet accused CM Bhagwant
Mann of creating '' extra constitutional authorities'' with no accountability. He called it a plot by AAP to
create a '' super Cabinet and super CM.'' SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema said ,'' The move Tantamounts
to Chadha being the de facto CM.'' BJP general secretory Tarun Chugh called it the ''darkest day in the
recent political history of Punjab'' as the CM had given his power to an''nconstitutional authority''.

Amid chaos,parties in lanka take steps to elect new Prez


The Sri Lankan Parliament will elect the new president to succeed Gotabaya Rajapaksha on July 20,
speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced on Monday, The decision was taken during an all party
meeting held earlier in the day.Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has already said that he would step
down after a new government is formed. Gotabaya is yet to resign but the Speaker has said he had
informed him on Saturday that he would quit on July 13. Parliament will then convenue on July15 to
announce the vacancy and meet again on July19 to accept the nominations for the post. Aparliamentary
ballot will be held on July 20 to elect the new President, said the Speaker. The Sri Lankan Constitution
stipulates that in the absence of a President and PM , the Speaker will serve as acting President for a
maximum of 30 days. Gotabaya had appointed Wickremesinghe as PM in May after his elder brother
Mahinda Rajapaksha was forced to resign due to popular protest .The whereabouts of the President , the
Former PM, and their Family members, many of whom were Cabinet minister,is unknown. Meanwhile,
the indian High Commisssion in Sri Lanka dismissed- reports that claimed India was sending troops to
Colombo to bail out the Rajapaksas. '' These reports are not in keeping with the position of Government
of Indiam,''it said.
