To begin with, throughout the text, the speaker continuously makes use of complex and

advanced vocabulary. This fluent use of advanced vocabulary could prove to readers that the
speaker is knowledgeable in relevance to the award’s context. It, furthermore, puts the speaker
at a position of higher dependability in the eyes of the audience.

Second, while primarily speaking in first person, the speaker weaves a third-person point-of-
view into his speech. When making suggestions and adding more strength to his points, he
uses the phrase “man must” - this phrase gives the readers a clear idea of the speaker’s
seriousness and ownership in regards to his suggestions, making them further persuaded by his
statements.

Third, overall, the speaker uses less of a persuasive style of writing. Rather, the speaker’s
speech has a more expository and reflective style. However, despite not using a persuasive
style, the speaker manages to persuade readers through his strong reflections and credible
opinions, which is what seemed to be the basis of the award.
