BACKGROUND- LEARNER GUIDE
It has been observed that child abuse has become rampant in Zimbabwe. Several factors are responsible for the practice in which children are
abused by relatives, guardians and strangers. Living in poverty, the breakdown of our culture and moral decadency have largely contributed to
child abuse. A better understanding of the causes and effects of child abuse will help lessen the rate at which children are abused.

The CALA
This CALA has 3 parts, part A, B and C. You are required to respond to all of them.

Part A (Data collection)


• Research and take down notes on the different types of abuses children in your community are exposed to. (30)
• Present your findings in the form of a graph or pie chart. (10)

Part B (Evidence of child abuse)


• From your findings, bring out evidence of child abuse in the form of pictures. (20)
• Give a short write-up to accompany the evidence.(10)

Part C (Awareness campaign)


• Design a poster as an awareness campaign against child abuse. (20)
• Below the poster write down in point form what should be done to end child abuse.(10)

CALA ASSESSMENT TIPS
• Research widely including the internet
• Identify different forms of child abuse
• Data presentation to be in the form of graphs or pie chart
• Evidence should include pictures and accompanying short write-ups
• Creativity in designing the awareness campaign poster is an added advantage
• Solutions should be realistic.

ASSESSMENT FOR PART A
✓ Your teacher will assess your wide research notes written in point form.
✓ You will be assessed on data presentation in the form of graphs or pie chart

ASSESSMENT FOR PART B


✓ Marks will be awarded for the evidence presented in picture form accompanied with short notes.

ASSESSMENT FOR PART C


✓ Your teacher will award marks on the design of the awareness campaign poster with pictures and short notes.
✓ You will also be assessed on realistic possible solutions to stop child abuse.
