Design Condition
All areas in the market shall be properly lighted either by natural or artificial light.
Relative humidity within the building shall be maintained at 60%. The building shall be provided
with effective and suitable ventilation to maintain a temperature of 26.7°C (80°F). Roof
ventilator shall be provided to maintain desired temperature.
Design Consideration
All market must provide fire exits in accordance with the provision of the Fire Code of the
Philippines (P.D. 1185).
For Security purposes, markets must be enclosed by fence with the height at least 2 meters (6.5)
feet and gates with lock.
Markets must be divided into different sections according to the kind of merchandise offered for
sale.
Design Requirements
Structural Plan
Materials used for construction of the market shall be durable and resistant to wear and
corrosion. Construction methods generally used for local construction are reinforced concrete,
timber and reinforced concrete block.
Walls and partitions should be at height not less than 1.22 meters (4 feet) from the floor. It shall
be painted or finished with a light color.
The basic grid for the regional public market is 9.6m x 9.6m = 92.16m², with 4.8 clearance
between columns. It is designed by combining block equivalent to one unit of this grid. The
maximum height of the building is 6.3m, and the basic number of stalls which can tenant a grid
is as follows:

Site Condition
The market shall be 50 meters (164 feet) away from public gathering places/ establishments like
schools, religious institutions, public offices, funeral establishments and etc.
Three types of market are determined by the population of the region, and the floor area of the
market is determined from the site condition
