Understanding Adjectives
Adjectives or descriptive words are helpful when they describe our feelings or
personal experiences especially on the latest issues that people are facing today.
These people might say, “If I could be given a chance, I would create the
most effective vaccine to stop the spread of this terrible virus.” or “We
should be optimistic, and embrace the drastic change that we are facing as of
this moment.” Now, take note of the use of these words: most effective, terrible,
optimistic, and drastic. If you have noticed, these words were able to describe the
nouns vaccines, virus people, and change. See how important adjectives are. They
can convey our ideas so clearly, express our opinions vividly and share our
experiences effectively.
✔ Understanding Suffix
Suffix is a morpheme added to the end of the root word to create new words.
Usually, the meaning of the newly converted words will depend on the morpheme
added to the last part of the word or words.
✔ Forms of Adjective
Adjectives in the comparative and superlative degrees should have the suffixes or
words which are added to show comparison such as -er, -est, -r, -st, -ier, -iest, more
and most for regular adjectives and the changes into a new word for irregular
adjectives. Look at the examples in the middle rows which are highlighted in the table
below.
