2. Job Title and Number of Positions Available: Associate Professor, one (1)
Hiroshima University facilitates the adoption of non-Japanese faculty members with the
aim of promoting globalization of the university. We particularly, but not exclusively,
encourage applicants from non-Japanese researchers.

3. Employment Period:
From October 1, 2016 to March 31, 2021(No reappointment opportunity offered)

4. Field of Specialization: Chemical Engineering; Especially, Surface Science,


Electrochemistry, Material Science, Environmental Chemical Engineering.
Associate Professor in the recruitment will conduct cooperative research with
Professor Akihiro Yabuki in Division of Chemical and Chemical
Engineering.

5. Courses to Teach:
Undergraduate programs
Liberal arts courses: Introductory Seminar for First-Year Students, etc.
Specialized education courses: Chemical Stoichiometry, Chemical Engineering
Fundamentals, Chemical Process Design, Experimental
Chemical Engineering, etc.
Graduate programs (Master’s programs): Chemical Engineering Research I&II,
Chemical Engineering Seminar IA&IB&II, etc.
Graduate programs (Doctoral programs): Chemical Engineering Research III&IV&V, etc.

6. Application Requirements
Applicants must satisfy all of the following requirements.
(1) Hold a doctoral degree (or equivalent degree conferred by a foreign institution).
(2) Hold sufficient research achievements, and be able to supervise doctoral students in
thesis preparation.
(3) Ability to teach classes and supervise students’ research in both Japanese and English.
(4) Contribute to the development of Department of Chemical Engineering by the research
and education with the foresight and enthusiasm.

membership of academic societies, rewards and punishments.)
(2) The activities of academic societies and social activities
(3) List of publications and presentations (A doctoral dissertation, referred papers in
academic journals, papers presented in international conferences, invited lectures in
international conferences, review articles, and books, including coauthors,
corresponding author, journal title, volume, date, and page numbers)
(4) Copies of no more than ten major papers
(5) Summary of the past research activities. Each paper should be listed (up to two pages of
A4 paper).

(8) Status of acquisition of external funds in the last ten years
(9) Aspirations and plans for research and education after taking office (approx. one page of
A4 paper for each)
(10) Names and contact information of three or more reference persons for the applicant
(mailing address, affiliation, phone numbers, and e-mail address).

10. Selection Procedures


(1) After selection based on application documents, we hold an interview and ask a trial
lesson in Japanese and English. Please note that no travel expenses will be provided.
(2) Hiroshima University promotes gender-equal society. In accordance with the legislative
intent of the Basic Law for a Gender-Equal Society, our university will hire a female
applicant rather than a male applicant when the achievements (including research
achievements, academic achievements, societal contribution, etc.) and character of both
applicants are considered equal.

11. Salary, etc.


The annual salary system will be applied to successful candidates.
(Regulations Concerning Salaries of Hiroshima University Faculty Members Employed
under Annual Salary System will be applied.)

In the case of applicants who will be employed by Hiroshima University after retiring
from the national government, an independent administrative institution, local public
authority, government-affiliated financial corporation as specified in the Act on National
Public Officers’ Retirement Allowance, etc., their term of office at their former place of
employment and at Hiroshima University will not be combined. Be sure to note this
change from before the incorporation of national universities.
For applicants who will be employed by Hiroshima University after retiring from
another national university corporation, independent administrative corporation national
institute of technology, etc., their term of office at their former place of employment and
at Hiroshima University will be combined as before, provided that their current place of
employment has the same regulation as this.

12. Evaluation
We plan to conduct individual performance evaluations for all Hiroshima University faculty
members after their employment, numerically rate their performance, and translate their
evaluation results into their treatment.

13. Miscellaneous
(1) Personal information obtained from application documents will not be used or provided
to any third party for purposes other than the necessary procedures related to personnel
affairs, salary, and welfare. Application documents of applicants whom we have decided
not to employ will be returned to those applicants in an appropriate manner, after the
completion of relevant selection processes.
