Cutting Tools
Cutting Tools
Sharp cutting tools can make clean cuts and well define notches and they do not damage fabric. On the
other hand, dull tools slow the cutting process and make your hand and wrist tire easily. Sewing cutting tolls
should not be used for other household task. Cutting tools must be sharpened regularly and the joints are
oiled occasionally for better use.
Examples are:
Bent- handled dressmaking shears- 7-12 inches long and used to cut fabrics.
Pinking shears- Used to finish the seams and raw edges of garments for construction and cuts a ravel
resistant edge.
Embroidery scissors- 4-5 inches finely tapered blades. Use with fine details in delicate fabrics and in
embroidery works.
Thread clippers- A handy spring loaded cutting tool used to snip threads. Seam ripper
Tailors chalk- An essential marker for most fabrics and can be removed by brushing.
Wax chalk - Used for woolen fabrics and can be removed by pressing.
Tracing wheel-

1. Serrated edge wheel – creates dots on the fabrics
2. Smooth edge wheel – creates fine lines on fabrics
