CODE OF ETHICS

ETHICS
Ethics is derived from ancient Greek word ethios which means “theory of things”
or “way Of living”. It is appreciated for the purposes it holds.

The theory of things views that the happening of events, decisions, and actions
is the product of rightful thoughts and deeds.

Ethics is also derived from the old French word ethique, Late Latin ethica which
means “of or for morals, moral or expressing character,” and Modern Latin
mores which means “customs”.
A code of ethics is a guide of principles designed to
help professionals conduct business honestly and
with integrity.

BOARD OF MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY
CODE OF ETHICS
As | enter into the practice of Medical Technology,
| shall accept the responsibilities
inherent to being a professional:

| shall Uphold the law and shall not engage in illegal work nor
cooperate with anyone so engaged;

| shall avoid associating or being identified with any


enterprise of questionable character;

| shall work and act in a strict spirit of fairness to employer, clients,
contractors,
employees and in a spirit of personal helpfulness and fraternity toward
other members of the
profession;

| shall Use only honorable means of competition for professional employment or


services
and shall refrain form unfairly injuring, directly or indirectly, the professional
reputation, projects or
business of a fellow medical technologist

I shall accept employment from more than one


employer only when there in no conflict of interest;

| shall perform professional work in a manner that merits full
confidence and trust carried
out with absolute reliability, accuracy, fairness and honesty;

| shall review the professional work of


other medical technologists, when requested, fairly and in confidence whether they are
subordinates or employees, authors of proposals for grants or contracts, authors of technical
papers or other publications or involved in litigation;

| shall advance the profession by exchanging general information and experience


with
fellow medical technologists and other professionals and by contributing to the work
of
professional organizations;

| shall restrict my praises, criticisms, views and opinions within
constructive limits and
shall not use the knowledge | know for selfish ends;

| shall treat any information | acquired about


individuals in the course of my work as strictly confidential, and may
be divulged only to
authorized persons or entities or with consent of the individual when
necessary;

| shall report any infractions of these principles of
professional conduct to the authorities
responsible of enforcement of applicable laws or
regulations, or to the Ethics Committee of the
Philippine Association of Medical Technologists as may be
appropriate.
To these principles, | hereby subscribe and pledge to
conduct myself at all times in a
manner befitting the dignity of my profession.

A registered medical technologist must accept


the responsibility of upholding the laws in line
with the profession.
= Rule 1.1. A registered medical technologist must render
laboratory services competently.
= Rule 1.2 Aregistered medical technologist must engage in only
those aspects of the professions that are within the scope of
his/her professional practice and competence, considering
his/her level of education, training and experience.
= Rule 1.3 Aregistered medical technologist must not defraud or

maintain the highest level of professional
competence and performance

A registered medical technologist must adopt the


ethical value of fairness with fellow medical
technologists in the delivery of laboratory
services
Rule 3.1 A registered medical technologist must not |
participate in professional activities that constitute a
conflict of interest.
Rule 3.2 A registered medical technologist must refer
those served professionally solely on the basis of the
interest of those being referred and not on any personal
interest, financial or otherwise.
Rule 3.3 A registered medical technologist must
engage in one employment at a time.

A registered medical technologist must honor his/her
responsibilities to the professions and relationships with
colleagues, students, and members of other professions
and discipline.
Rule 6.1 A registered medical technologist must not discriminate
in his/her relationships with colleagues, students and members
of other professions and disciplines on the basis of race or
ethnicity, gender, gender identity/ gender expression, age,
religion, national origin, sexual orientation or disability.
Rule 6.2 A medical technologist's statements to the public when
advertising, announcing, and marketing his/her professional
services, reporting research results and promoting products
shall adhere to professional standards and shall not contain
misinterpretations.

A registered medical technologist must take his/her
responsibility to hold paramount the welfare of
persons he/she serves professionally or who are
participants in research and scholarly activities, and
he/she shall treat animals involved in research in a
humane manner.
Rule 7.1 A registered medical technologist must not
misrepresent his/her credentials, competence, education,
training, experience, or scholarly or research contributions.
Rule 7.2 A registered medical technologist must fully inform
the persons he/she serves of the nature and the possible
“sas effects of their participation in research conducted.
