the Choice Based Credit System of the curriculum allows students to

Library
The newly built Dr A C Muthiah Central
Library, with a state-of-the-art facility, aspires
to expose students to the world of knowledge.
The built-up area of this centralized air-
conditioned library is 52,732.07 Sq.ft. The
Library provides access to a collection of
books, journals and multi-media materials,
and offers other technical support services to
cater to education and thereby serves as an
excellent starting place for research.
All materials are discoverable online through the Library Search Portal on the Library page in the
campus network. Over 103,293 volumes of books are available under 27,250 titles covering various
disciplines of Engineering and beyond. In addition, the library provides 760 e-books,1283 ejournals,156
international and national journals,140 national magazines and thousands of multimedia resources on
various subjects. Students also utilize and are benefited from inter-library loan facility. To improve
facilities in the library, meaningful suggestions are given periodically by the Library Committee that
comprises student representatives, HODs and library staff.
Hostels
The College has separate hostels for men and women. The
men's hostel accommodates 784 students while the
women's hostel accommodates 384 students. The rooms
are well-lit and wellfurnished. The residents use the
facilities of the College for indoor and outdoor games.
The atmosphere is conducive for the development of the
overall personality of students. A spacious mess offers a
variety of hygienic and tasty food.
Reprography
Reprography and binding facilities are available
at the OAT to cater to the needs of the students.
Canteen
The canteen is run by the College with well-
trained staff. It is equipped with modern
cooking facilities. and is known for its quality of
service and hygiene. It provides a variety of
eatables and beverages.
Students' Association
Office bearers of the association are selected from
the elected class representatives. The association
takes all efforts to make students experience,
from freshers' day to graduation day in college,
rewarding and worth remembering. Apart from
general coordination with the management, two
major activities characterize the association. The
cultural program is held to identify talents from
among the first-year students in order to
represent the College in inter-college events. The
other is the intra-mural cultural activities that
include quizzing and testing managerial skills.
Sports
The Physical Education Department plans,
conducts and supervises sports and games, both
indoor and outdoor, at intra and intercollegiate
levels. Our sports grounds provide excellent
facilities for outdoor sports. Cricket, football,
hockey grounds along with tennis and
basketball courts are a few of the amenities our
students make use of, apart from the recently
constructed multi-facility indoor complex. To
gain health and fitness habits students are
encouraged to take advantage of the swimming
pool and multi-facility gymnasia available in
the College separately for men and women.
Transport
55 buses transport nearly 2700 students and staff
to the College and ply several routes as far as
from Kancheepuram and Thirovottriyur to
College. Extra buses are made available, late in the
evenings to drop students who work in the
laboratories or the library or play games.
SCHOLARSHIPS &
AWARDS
Under the guidance of Dr A C Muthiah, Chairman, Governing Council, the College has initiated a
scheme to distribute 5% of the tuition fees income to students and Scholarship Scheme I and II.
Cethar-CVL Award
This award is for the best student in the Mechanical Department. Shree Hareehara Sudhan
Education Trust Award This award carries a citation, a silver plaque, and a cash prize for the
College's first rank-holder in B Tech Chemical Engineering.
PG Scholarship
Scholarship in the form of a fee waiver is given to meritorious students pursuing PG programs.
Personality Development
The development of our students as individuals and as team players is taken care of through several
activities and thus our students move into realms beyond the classroom with maturity in overall
outlook and gather meaningful experiences. Through our NSS unit, our students go to nearby villages,
mingle with the folks, do services of all kinds including literacy programs. NCC — Army, Air and
Naval — teaches the importance of the discipline of the body and the mind.
Speaker's Forum and student journalism allow free, creative and fearless communication, and mould
our learners into powerful communicators.
Professional Development
Another valuable realm beyond academics is the growth of our students as future professionals.
Student Chapters of ISTE (Indian Society of Technical Education) and of ISTD (Indian Society for
Training and Development) take care of students' professional and career growth so that they
confidently face the growing challenges of industry.
Tamil Mandram
The Tamil Mandram promotes flowering of
personality through pattimandram (debate) and
karutharangam (symposium).
PLACEMENT AND
TRAINING
Placement and Training Centre guides students to strengthen their professional skills through training and
also guides them in planning their future academic and professional goals through various education and
career fairs, pre-placement talks, and internship programs and counselling from career consultants.
Through on-campus interviews, and various other recruiting efforts, SVCE helps its students throughout
the entire job search process. At SVCE, 80 percentage of graduates go straight into the workforce recruited
on campus and the rest go for higher studies in international universities of repute.
