GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

Read the following instructions carefully.

1. There are 12 questions in this question paper with internal choice.

2. SECTION A - Q. No. 1 to 3 are very short answer questions carrying 2 marks

each.

3. SECTION B - Q. No. 4 to 11 are short answer questions carrying 3 marks each.

4. SECTION C- Q. No. 12 is a case based question carrying 5 marks.

5. All questions are compulsory.

6. Use of log tables and calculators is not allowed.

SECTION- A

Q.1 How do alkali and alkaline earth metals react with water?

OR

Q.1 Aluminium forms is not formed. Give a reason.

Q.2 For the reaction, 𝑁𝑂(𝑔) + 𝑂3(𝑔)⇌𝑁𝑂2(𝑔) + 𝑂2(𝑔), 𝐾𝑐 = 6. 3×10 at
1000 K. Both the forward and reverse reactions are elementary bimolecular
reactions in equilibrium. What is 𝐾𝑐 for the reverse reaction?

Q.3 How would you convert ethanoic acid into benzene?

SECTION- B

Q.4 For the reaction,

𝑜 𝑜 −1 𝑜
2𝐴(𝑔) + 𝑏(𝑔)→2𝐷(𝑔); ∆𝑈 =− 10. 5 𝑘𝐽 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ∆𝑆 =− 44. 1 𝐽𝐾 . Calculate ∆𝐺
for the reaction and predict whether the reaction may occur spontaneously.

(𝑅 = 8. 314×10−3 𝑘𝐽 𝑚𝑜𝑙−1, 𝑇 = 298 𝐾)

Q.4 A mixture of CO and 𝐶𝑂2 is found to have a density of 1. 50 𝑔𝐿 at 20°𝐶
and 740 mm pressure. Calculate the composition of the mixture.

Q.5 Oxygen molecule has the formula 𝑂2 while sulphur is 𝑆8.Give reason.

Q.6 Write structures of different isomers formed by C6H10. Also write IUPAC
names of all the isomers.
OR
Q.6 At 250C and 760 mm of Hg pressure a gas occupies 600 ml volume. What will
be its pressure at a height where temperature is 1000C and volume of the gas is
640 mL. Calculate the volume occupied by 5.0 g of acetylene gas at 5000C and
740 mm pressure.
Q.7 Explain wurtz reaction with an example.

Q.8 Calcium lactate Ca(Lac)2 is salt of weak organic acid. A saturated solution of
Ca(Lac)2 contains 0.13 mol of this salt in 0.5 litre solution. The pOH of this
solution is 5.60. Assuming a complete dissociation of salt, calculate Ka of lactic
acid.

Q.9 Complete the following reactions:

Q.10 The density of an equilibrium mixture of N2O4 and NO2 at 1 atm. and 348 K

N2O4(g) 2NO2(g).

Q.11 What happens when

(i) isopropyl bromide is heated with alcoholic KOH;

(ii) Pent-2-ene reacts with HBr.
(iii) ethene is treated with chlorine water.
OR

Q.11 Predict if the solutions of the following salts are neutral, acidic or basic:

NaCl, KBr, NaCN, NaOH H2SO4, NaNO2, NH4NO3, KF

SECTION - C

Q.12 Read the given passage and answer the questions.

Isotherm of CO2 at various temperatures is first complete data on pressure-volume

temperature relations of a substance in both gaseous and liquid state was obtained
by Thomas Andrews on Carbon dioxide. Andrews noticed that at high
temperatures isotherms look like that of an ideal gas and the gas cannot be liquified
even at very high pressure. As the temperature is lowered, the shape of the curve
changes and data show considerable deviation from ideal behaviour. The steep line
represents the isotherm of liquid. A slight compression from volume V2 to V3
results in a steep rise in pressure from P2 to P3. The length of the horizontal line
increases at lower temperatures. At the critical point, the horizontal portion of the
isotherm merges into one point.

1. What is the critical temperature of CO2 gas?

2. Define critical volume.

3.Gases possess characteristic critical temperature. Following are the critical

temperatures of some gases.

Gas H2 He O2 N2
Critical temperature 33.2 5.3 154.3 126

From the above data what would be the order of liquefaction of these gases.

4. In an isotherm graph at 21.5°C, what is the physical state of CO2 at point B.
