[Symptom]
I
When images shrink the sender information will be hidden(FAX).

[Cause]
 Problem of the firmware for FAX board FK-508.
 Extra spaces(white lines) has been added to the received data if you switch off
“add sender information (outside/inside)“ in administrator when sending a fax.

1-2. Image noise on the edge (Ds Collar wear) [1/3]

[Symptom]
The outer / inner surface of the Ds Collar starts to wear which causes black bands
that will appear on side of the image.

In a worst case,
this whole area
becomes black.

1-2. Image noise on the edge (Ds Collar wear) [2/3]

[Cause]
1. Some amount of the developer enter the gap area between the Ds Collar and
the shaft of developing roller.
-> The inner surface of the Ds Collar starts to wear.
2. Some amount of the developer gets stuck between the Ds Collar and the
housing of the developer. Due to this, the Collar will be fixed.
-> Specific area of the collar will continue to contact the drum, causing the outer
surface of the collar to wear.
[Countermeasure]
Improvement of the Ds Collar (Add a bearing to its inner surface has been added).

[Action in the field]

Replace the following part.
(For the better serviceability in the field, a kit will be provided for the replacement
instead of a single part.)

2-1. C0208/0206 : Tray lift-up error [1/2]
[Symptom]
“C-0208/C-0206” sporadically occur and Tray 3/4 become unavailable.

[Cause]
1. The wire harness is so short that the connection between the main body and the
paper feed cabinet(PC-208) may not connect properly.
2. Problem of the firmware.
 When the machine returns from sleep mode and the sub-Power Switch is turned on,
Motor-ON signal may be sent out from the ASIC of the cabinet. As a result, the motor
may rotate for 34ms.
 If this problem repeats, you will receive C0208/0206.
 This problem occurs especially with Tray4 which is not so frequently used (C-0208).

2-2. Jam : 30-01 (PC-409)

[Symptom]
J30-01 occurs when you print with the PC-409 attached.

[Cause]
There is a difference between the “updated value of paper position” and the “actual
paper travel distance”. Therefore, paper fails to slow down at the required timing
and gets too close to the one in front. As a result, Jam occurs because the sensor
prior to the registration roller cannot catch up “OFF the edge” of the paper in front.

[Countermeasure]
The FW is changed to match the updated value of paper position and the actual paper
travel distance.

2-3. Fusing actuator is broken [1/2]

[Symptom/Cause]
After paper jam occurs in fusing section, when pulling out the jammed paper by strong
force or the feeding paper is relatively thick, there is a possibility that actuator
would be broken.

[Countermeasure]
The actuator is increased in strength with five times than the current design.

*Caution
For the broken actuator in MIF, please replace it with Separating Guide Assy which is
newly-made part (A1UDR72100) and includes the modified actuator.

2-4. How to select the machine motion when controller JAM occurs [1/2]

[Outline]
We will provide you with the countermeasure to prevent the fuser actuator breakage
occurring based on the following scenario.
 As long as the machine works within the specification, it stops immediately just
after the paper size error occurs (when you try to print from the bypass tray). We call
that "Controller Jam".
 In that situation, the paper would be caught between the fuser rolls so that you have
to remove it.
 However, if you pull the paper too hard, the fuser actuator might be broken.

[Action in the field]

1. Update the firmware to Special FW: GC3-C4
2. Set the software SW50 as below.
SW50: 0x00 (default): The machine stops right after the error occurs.
(original motion, controller JAM).
SW50: 0x10: Continue printing even when the paper size error occurs.

2-4. How to select the machine motion when print JAM occurs [2/2]

[Options]
a) Stop right after the error occurs (default, original motion, print JAM).
b) Continue printing even when the paper size error occurs.

*Caution
In this case, the paper output will completely finish, however, you will see the
massage “Paper size / Incorrect Type” on the operation panel because the
paper size error is detected. To cancel the massage, load a paper of any
type on the bypass tray.
(Exception)
The machine works as original motion in the following conditions even when
you select “Continue printing”. Duplex printing
 The paper size is larger than the size detected by the machine.
 The print job includes Center Staple and fold, Half-fold, Tri-fold, or Z-fold
(when finisher is attached).

2-5. Paper JAM occurs at the tray 2

[Symptom]
Dog-ears on the leading edge / paper JAM may occur at the paper take-up section
of the tray 2.
[Cause]
 To avoid JAM, the front edge of the guide (A1UD5626*)
on the paper feed side is designed to be higher than
that of the guide on the vertical transport side (A1UD5724*) ,
 However, some are inversely placed due to the variation
in production. Consequently, the paper may get caught.
 This problem occurs only at the tray 2.

[Countermeasure]
Alter the position of the front edge of the paper guide of
the tray 2 to be in correct position. A1UD5724

2-6. Lever (paper feed section) is broken [1/2]
[Symptom]
The lever (A1UD5611, paper feed section) can be hit by the paper cassette
very hard when you open/close the paper cassette, and the lever is not strong
enough (stress is concentrated at thin part of the lever), resulting in lever
breakage.

2-7. Cassette breakage [1/5]

[Symptom]
The right rear side of a cassette breaks when it is slid into the machine/cabinet
with great force.

[Cause]
 The damaged part is considered safety rate into its design, however if the
cassette is pushed in with force, it may result in breakage.
 In some cases, the pickup lever breaks.
[Countermeasure]
1. Reduce the force acting on the cassette and the pick-up lever.
-> Approx. 30% force has been reduced by changing the contact angle of
the pick-up lever.
2. Permanent only: Reinforce the cassette

 Original is not taken-up because the Paper Take-up Roller of ADF stays in the
Lower position.
 We can not use ADF.
 It is easy to drop from the Stopper of front side in Paper Take-up section.

[Countermeasure / Action in the field]

The following 3 items are implemented to increase the overlap quantity of the stopper of
front side in Paper Take-up section.

1. The shape of the Lever has been changed.

2. The position of the Shaft (a) for installing the Stopper has been moved.
3. The position of the Shaft (b) for installing the Retaining Ring (a) has been moved.

3-2. ADF operating noise [1/3]

[Symptom]
ADF makes noise while it is operating.

[Cause]
Noise is generated from ADF when…

[1] Pickup roller goes up/down

 The paper stopper hits the pick arm very hard when the pickup roller goes down.
 When the pickup roller goes up, it hits the top cover guide.
 When the pickup roller goes down, the separation guide vibrates due to its moving
gap.
 When the pickup roller goes down, it vibrates due to its moving gap.

3-3. Latch of DF-open/close-lever is broken [1/4]

[Symptom]
 When you close the DF access-cover while strongly pushing the handle of
its open/close lever with your palm, the handle bends to the opposite side
of the cover opening position and the front side hook might be in the
incorrect position.

 If you force the cover open, the rear hook will receive too much stress and
then be broken.

[Cause]
Reinforce the handle of the lever. (The details are shown in [3/4].)

4-1. Jam : 72-17 (FS-529) [1/2]
[Symptom]
JAM(J72-17) occurs frequently in FS-529.
[Cause]
A) FW problem of FS-529 (incorrect setting of the Duty ratio of transportationmotor.)
This problem occurs mostly on larger than B4 size.
B) JAM processing lever doesn't lock enough.
[Countermeasure]
A) Correction for incorrect setting of current value of transportation motor.

5-1. C-B120 (when you put down telephone receiver)

[Symptom]
You hear a busy signal when you pick up the receiver of the ringing telephone (externally
connected). After that C-B120 occurs when the receiver is put down.

[Cause]
 Problem of the FAX firmware.
 An unnecessary error processing is done in FK-508 FW when you receive messages
that should be discarded.

[Countermeasure]
Update the FW (Add a process of discarding messages that should be discarded.)

5-2. FAX receiving error : R11

[Symptom]
When receiving a G3-FAX from a specific FAX machine (such as CanoniRC3380F),
R11 error may occur.

[Cause]
 This issue is caused by modem incompatibility.
 There is a problem with the modem when the system goes into Receive Phase-D,
and Silicon DAA (which controls the connection) it is directly-connected to the
modem in FK-508. As a result, unintended disconnection occurs.

5-3. T99 error occurs when using PC-FAX

[Symptom]
T99 error intermittently occurs when using PC-FAX

[Cause]
 Problem of the FAX driver.
 The line for transmitting the destination number is missing in PJL commands.

[Countermeasure]
Fixed the bug of the FAX driver.
Ver.：1.2.0.0 (old ver.： 1.1.0.0）
Core：2.04.28-1.29 (old ver.： 2.04.28-1.21）

MR version will be released at a later date.

5-4. Unable to delete a FAX job during transmission

[Symptom]
FAX job cannot be deleted even after selecting “Delete” on the confirmation screen
of “Are you sure you want to delete this job?”.
Deleting the job becomes possible after the main switch OFF / ON.
[Cause]
 Problem of the FAX FW
 Job completion process stops when redial notification and/or the job cancel are
requested at the same time.

[Countermeasure ]
Modified the FAX FW to complete the job delete properly.

5-5. The line may remain busy when sending a FAX
[Symptom]
When sending a fax, the line may remain busy for several minutes to hours.
[Cause]
 At the time of JBIG transmission, there is very rare process timing of adding rubbish
data at the codec processing part (depends on the volume of original documents).
 If the corrupted data is limited, the receiver machine ends up with a decode error
and the data with corruption cannot be completed. Consequently, it won’t transmit
MCF and the sender machine will have T28 error.
 If corrupted data volume is not limited, communication may not be completed due to
continuous corrupt data output by PPS-NULL
[Countermeasure]
FW has been modified in order not to add rubbish data regardless of its volume.

[Action in the field]

Update the firmware.
Temporary (Special FW) : GC5-C8 (FAX Ver. G00-04) or later
Permanent (Mass-production program) : To be applied to the next MR version.

6-1. Default setting of “Original Type” cannot be changed

[Symptom]
The default setting of “Original Type” cannot be changed even when you select a
setting and is set as “Current Setting”.

[Cause]
 Problem of the firmware.
 A common process is used to set “Factory default” and “Current Setting” of the
“Original Type”, and “Text” is always set in that process.

[Action in the field]

6-2. “8-1/2*11” is displayed when setting A4R on DF

[Symptom/Cause]
 If an A4R original document is curled and the trailing edge is up, the paper length
sensor/2(PS7) is not ON. So, the machine recognizes that it is “8-1/2*11”.
 If you choose A4 size for printing under that condition, the machine shrinks the image
to 97.3% (from “8-1/2*11” to A4). As a result, the trailing edge of the original
document is missing in the printed paper.

[Action in the field]

Update the firmware.
Temporary (Special FW) : GC1-C2
*You need to set the following software SW to enable this countermeasure.
Software Switch No. : 13
HEX Assignment 00 : This countermeasure is not applied. (default)
HEX Assignment 80 : This countermeasure is active.
**Caution : When this active, “8-1/2*11” paper cannot be recognized by DF.

6-3. Email is always selected when you select FAX address

[Cause]
 Problem of the firmware of the controller.
 You have to set a default document name when you select an abbreviated address
other than FAX. However, a default document name is set even when only FAX is
available. As a result, this problem occurs because the system is designed to always
select E-mail setting when a document name is set.

[Action in the field]

Update the firmware.

6-4. Remaining toner amount is not displayed correctly
[Symptom]
Remaining toner amount displayed on PSWC etc. is different between at sleep and
after printing.

[Cause]
The information of remaining toner amount is obtained from the backup memory when
the Power is ON / the machine gets back from sleep mode, but the information of
toner consumption rate is updated at the start of printing. Therefore, the
consumption rate is 0% (toner full) right after the machine boots up.

[Countermeasure]
The process is changed to calculate the consumption rate right after the machine
boots up and convey it to the MFP controller.

6-5. Size detection failure of the bypass tray

[Symptom]
After placing 114 mm envelope(s) on the bypass tray then input the size from the control
panel, the size shown on the screen will alternately be A6SEF and B6SEF then
reinputting the custom size becomes impossible.

[Cause ]
 Problem of the engine FW.
 Due to the detection reference voltage swing when placing CD 114mm width

7-1. Noise from receiver when telephone is off-hook

[Symptom]
You hear noise from the receiver (the telephone is off-hook) when you listen to a
voice response such as weather forecast service.

[Cause]
The cutoff frequency of 3.9kHz makes it difficult to listen to programs.

Change the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter circuit on the FAX board from
3.9kHz to 3kHz.(Change the FK-508 board)

Problem of the hardware.
Power saving mode for HDD itself has 2 modes, which are Sleep and Standby, the
cause of the problem is related to this power saving function.
Before this modification, Sleep mode was ON for HDD. And the problem occurred
because HDD became Busy when recovering from Sleep mode.

【Countermeasure】
The power saving mode is changed from Sleep to Standby.

[Background]
We modified the image processing method to provide less variability in image
density control (caused by machine condition or environment etc.), resulting in
better toner mileage.

[Implementation Method]
1. Update the FW to Ver. Gxx-C2 or later of Special FW/Mass-production
program.
2. Set Engine DIP SW as below (only for bizhub283/223)*
7: OFF 8: ON

[Setting method]
Enter "Security settings” by [STOP -> 0 -> C] at “Service Mode” when
setting Dip SW.
* This must be done when setup a machine even though it originally
has "Gxx-C2 " FW.

8-3. Freeze (after recovering from sleep mode)

[Symptom]
Print job (print / FAX) won’t be printed when sleep mode and the operation panel
freezes at the KM logo / blank screen (can be recovered by power OFF / ON).
[Cause]
 Problem of the firmware.
 Loop process is performed when a trap is requested and it normally finishes after15
times but was finished after 16 times, the value was written beyond the allocated
sequence region caused stack smash, resulting in the panel freeze.

[Countermeasure]
Modified loop process.

8-5. NV-RAM connector breakage
[Symptom]
When attempting to start the MFP the following symptoms occurs and start-up fails.
 Freezes at the KM logo / the hour glass
 After the hour glass, displays C-C211 / C-D390
[Cause]
NV-RAM connection failure (The connector part of the MFP board gets damaged when
installing / removing the NV-RAM. See the photo below.)
[Countermeasure]
Reinforcing the connector part of the MFP board. (P/N is not changed.)
Note: In addition to the above countermeasure, please install / remove
the NV-RAM GENTLY to minimize applying stress to the connector.

[Symptom]
MFP doesn’t receive a data acquisition request file while CSRC server requesting
it and consequently the communication may not be established (HB: Heart Beat
file won’t be sent).

[Cause]
Although resending function is not applied to the HB-transmission, the HB-
transmission won’t be sent when the number of resending reaches its maximum
value.

[Countermeasure ]
Modified the main body FW.
Modified to send the HB-transmission even after the number of resending
reaches its maximum value

8-7. IEEE802.1x connection failure
[ Symptom]
Under IEEE802.1x environment, if you disconnect the network cable from the
network hub and then reconnect it 10 sec. later, the network connection won’t be
re-established (authentication fails).

[Cause]
 Problem of the FW (LAN driver)
 The network card cannot receive multicast packets once the LAN cable is
disconnected because the multicast table is cleared when disconnected and will
not be re-created even when re-connected.
 As authentication protocols in IEEE802.1x (EAPOL/EAP) are sent via multicast
addresses, if the network card doesn’t response to multicast packets, the
authentication will fail and the re-connection to the LAN will also fail.

[Countermeasure]
Modified the FW (LAN driver) to recreate the multicast table for reconnection.
[Action in the field]
