Bullet Santi

When Mansukhbhai Jagani, a farmer from Amreli,Gujarat was forced to sell off his family's bullocks in
1993, with a year of drought, and hard pressed responsibility to till the soil the following year, he
came up with the idea of attaching the plough to a motorbike engine. The three-wheeler ploughing
machine of Jagani's, came to be known as the 'Bullet Shanti', very soon and became a very common
sight across Gujarat, despite the fact that Jagani had only studied until class 5th.He earlier used to
work in the nearby diamond factory, lately he learnt welding and started working as a mechanic later.
He replaced the petrol engine of the bullet bike into a diesel engine and replaces the rear wheel by
attaching various farming tools like Plough,Sprayer,Tiller,Sower and many other. With time many
more modifications were attached and now there are currently around 8-9 main variations in all
models available and 300 manufacturers are coming up with a big market of 20000+ customers.

Basically anyone who has a motorcycle and wants a alternative to the traditional bullock plough can
have the santi made and operate it themselves. This small modification to the motorcycle can provide
a lot, save time and cut down on costs. Some people who had santi left farming and started
production of bullet-santi by themselves and started selling 70-80 machines per year. The innovation
of Jagani proved to be an inspiration in his region. Now, the 600 workshops, which were making
equipment of agriculture earlier, are now making Santi’s to make sure the demand get’s met. 600 such
equipment were made by him and there are more than 600 people who are making it. Plough is
driven by a motor vehicle.

A motorcycle converted into a mini-tractor by an attachment. The device can be attached to any
motorcycle with over a horse power of at least 6.5 hp engine. Rear wheel of the motorcycle is
removed and innovative assembly unit is attached to motorcycle. Various agriculture attachments can
be attached to it for various form of operations like shallow ploughing, inter-culturing, weeding,
sowing etc.
Cost:
The cost of assembling a Santi is Rs 40,000 and it doesn’t require a dedicated person needed to take
care of the machine. The Attachments are light weighted, and easy to handle.
