Use
• To state the singular quantity of a noun.
Structure
• a + singular noun that starts with a consonant sound in affirmative,
negative, and interrogative sentences.
• an + singular noun that starts with a vowel sound in affirmative, negative,
and interrogative sentences.
Examples
There is a banana/an apple.
There isn’t a banana/an apple.
Is there a banana/an apple?

Use
