Good Morning, Everyone! Or in Zamboanga, “Buena’s dias”

Let us introduce you to the Zamboanga Peninsula and its history, geography,
gastronomic attractions, cuisine, language and economy.

Remy

The history of Zamboanga was founded by Spanish forces in 1635 on


the site of a native settlement. Its name is derived from the Malay jambangan
(“place of flowers”)

The Zamboanga Peninsula was known as Sibugay or Sibuguey during


the coming of the Spanish conquistadors. And later on was changed into
Zamboanga from the capital town of the province.

Zamboanga Peninsula consists of 3 provinces and 5 cities The names of these


provinces are Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Norte, Zamboanga Del Sur,
and Zamboanga Sibugay. And its cities are the Dapitan City, Dipolog City,
Isabela City, and Zamboanga City.

The province of Zamboanga Del Norte has 2 cities, the capital of which is
called Dipolog City, with a land area of 730, 100 hectares

As for, The province of Zamboanga Del Sur it has 1 city, The capital of which
is called Pagadian City, with a land area of 591,416 hectares

For, The province of Zamboanga Sibugay it has 0 capital city, The capital of
which is called Ipil, with a land area of 360,775 hectares

And lastly, The province of Zamboanga City it has 0 capital city, and has a
land area of 141,470 hectares

Dapitan City

Zamboanga del Norte,

Officially known as the City of Dapitan, is a 3rd class component city in the
province of Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of
85,202 people.

Dipolog City

Officially known as the City of Dipolog, is a 3rd class component city and
capital of the province of Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines. According to the
2020 census, it has a population of 138,141 people
Pangadian City

Officially known as the City of Pagadian, is a 2nd class component city and the
capital of the province of Zamboanga del Sur. It is the regional center of
ZamPen and the second largest city in the region and in the province.

Isabela de Basilan City

A coastal component city in the island province of Basilan. It serves as the


provincial capital. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was
130,379.

Zamboanga City

officially known as the City of Zamboanga, is a city in the Zamboanga


Peninsula region of the Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a
population of 977 234 people

SIBUG-SIBUG FESTIVAL

(February 15-26) Oysters in Zamboanga Sibugay is dubbed as the "mostly


delicious, juiciest, meatiest, and biggest oysters". The locals hold the Sibug-
Sibug Festival to celebrate its oyster industry.

PASALAMAT FESTIVAL

January 15-29) A street dancing competition presenting the traditional way of


holding thanksgiving celebration among the Subanens and Kalibugans.

KASIKAS FESTIVAL

Mamumuo, the patron of Ipil

(May 1) Annual celebration honoring Sr. San Jose

KASADYAAN FESTIVAL (December 15-19) Its is celebrated to commemorate


the founding anniversary of the Municipality of Diplahan.

Fiesta Pilar (Oct 10-12)

It is celebrated in honor of the miraculous image of Our Lady of the Pilar at


the legendary Fort pilar.

Regatta de Zamboanga

It is a highlight of Zamboanga Hermosa Festival where colorful vintas are set


to race.

FOODS & DELICACIES

SATTI

Satti is an exotic food. It signifies the unique ties between Christians and
Muslims in Zamboanga City, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. It is a mix of rice,
pork or chicken barbecue and sweet-spicy sauce and put on a stick.

KNICKERBOCKER

A sweet treat from Zamboanga. The knickerbocker is made of a mix of fruits


(slices of mango, banana, apple, and watermelon), gelatin, shaved ice, and
sweet milk, with a scoop of ice cream on top.

TIYULA ITUM

Tiyula itum is a Filipino braised beef or goat soup dish originating from the
Tausug people. The dish is characteristically black due to the unique use of
charred coconut meat.

CHICALANG

Purple glutinous rice grains are ground and mixed with some trigo (wheat
four) and water moderately enough to make a rice dough. A lump or cut of rice
dough is rolled to the size of banana fruit then fried deep in cooking oil.

TAKLOBO KILAWIN

Are raw giant clam meat in a vinegar - based dressing, usually eaten as an
appetizer.
