A. Discuss the following terminologies briefly.


1. Statistics
- is the study of data gathering, organization, analysis, interpretation, and presentation.
2. Descriptive Statistics
- relates to methods of data summarization and presentation the format, making them easier
to read and understand.
3. Inferential Statistics
- a way of making inferences and decisions about populations based on gathered evidence
from samples.
4. Population
- is a group of individuals from which a statistical sample is drawn for a study.
5. Sample
- is a set of individuals or objects collected or selected from a statistical population by a
defined procedure.
6. Qualitative Data
- measures of 'types' or characteristics and may be represented by a name, symbol, or a
number code.
7. Quantitative Data
- measures of values or counts and are expressed as numbers.

B. Cite 3 practical applications of Statistics and briefly discuss them.


• Research interpretations and conclusions
- Helps researchers organize, analyze, interpret and present the data of their research.
• Clinical trial design
- when testing out new drugs or vaccines to a group of people and to know whether or not it
could be a treatment for a disease or injury, analyze and determine the outcomes.
• Business management
- Used in managing the budgets, profits, prices and salaries.

1. An airline company wishes to determine if its first class, business class, and economy class passengers
are satisfied with its services.
