Dear Madam/Sir, Greetings !

I write this letter on behalf of the selected candidates in the Consolidated Reserve List in order of merit of the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2009 declared by UPSC on 16th June 2011. There are 55 group A vacancies and 13 DANIPS and DANICS posts available to the general candidates; i.e. 68 desirable vacancies for 90 listed candidates and 19 group A vacancies and 5 PONDICS vacancies available for the OBC candidates which makes it 24 desirable vacancies for 22 candidates. It has come into our notice that almost 23 candidates in the general category have already secured better ranking in their previous or their current attempt of 2010 and thus are not likely to opt for services from the said list. This could shorten the list, especially in the general category from 90 candidates to 67 candidates and would be in common benefit to every candidate in the list because s/he would stand for a better chance to get a desirable service. As per the rule, any candidate in the list can opt not to be part of the service allocation process if s/he intimates the same to the DoPT in writing. Such an act on your part would be of great help to the other candidates in the list who would then move up the list and be allotted a better post/service than what they would actually get. This would be a much desirable reward keeping in mind the effort and the hardship one goes through during the preparations for the civil services. Similar effort by candidates belonging to 2005-08 reserve/supplementary lists has also been fruitful with the cooperation of seniors who wrote to DoPT for not allocating services. Such initiatives are being co-ordinated by a group of people situated across India by means of the social networking site ORKUT. The efforts would be visible to you under the community Interview Prep for IAS which harbours the thread UPSC reserve List. Under the aegis of the above said forum, a campaign has been launched to approach all those candidates who have been selected or are likely to get a better post/service in the current (2010) allocation and acquire their support and solidarity to implement the above said. You receive this letter because we have found that you are already in service and/or are not likely to opt for an allocation from the above list. Therefore, we request you to support our cause by writing a letter to DOPT asking them not to allocate services for you in the consolidated reserve list of the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2009. A rough draft of the letter to be sent is attached herewith. Kindly rewrite it down in your own handwriting / in your own words so that they look authentic. You are requested to kindly send the letter to DoPT and then inform us on our forum or send us the letter so that we could submit the letter in person to DoPT on your behalf. I request you to consider this request with a sense of urgency. You are requested to contact any of the following members/ or other members of the forum you are familiar with, regarding the same.
