chapter 1 : PREAMBLE

Introduction :
The approach to Higher Education in KEI is fundamentally different. The
differentiating characteristics include education system, approach, research in
education, curriculum etc. keep KEI in a special platform to make a proper
educational environment.

Education is organic, it keeps growing and evolves with time and the human
mind. This is the major reason why education provided in different nations of
the world is different. The principles on which education systems are formed are
different for every nation. However, the aim is similar, i.e. to instil creativity
within the human mind.
Every education system has its pros and cons, in simple words - advantages and
disadvantages. As a developing nation, the Indian education system has been
developed on the pillars that support thorough theoretical knowledge and
prepare the students for some of the toughest competitive exams in the world.
Whereas education system of other developed nations are more flexible allowing
students to pursue varied career opportunities other than the mainstream
options.
It is essential to understand the difference between Indian and foreign education
especially if you are aspiring to make a proper educational environment.

Views from KEI Desk :

Keeping it in our mind we always step forward with innovative learning process
which is well structured. Rarely you’ll see a teacher deviate from what was taught in
last year to what is being taught in this year. This structure provides a great
foundation which is an undeniable truth. Our Academic Policy will make
foundations strong and clear allowing learners to explore their interests more easily
in life because of basics are crystal clear and modern technique oriented. We are
also quite focused when it comes to how college courses are structured and pick a
stream of learning with primary subject with extra and co curricular activities.

Features that make us different:

 No School Bag : Students of KMS School don’t need to carry a bag. Through
systematic and careful planning, we have eliminated the need of carry
anything. Our Advisor team are the pioneers of the “Bagless School” concept.
 Multidimensional Learning : Hands on activities help the children develop
real life skills. In addition to the core academics, children also pick up
planning, current affairs, logic and strategy. Novel activities like reading
which improves their reading, speaking and presentation skills – which
4
happen to be the most important skills which will be needed in the future.
Our events are one of a kind, and each one focuses on different aspects of
development and growth. Clarity of thought, communication skills,
conclusive ability and confidence greatly increases due to the exposure they
get in the Institute. All these give students an edge above others when they
become part of a larger group as they pass out from our Institution.
 Crossover Teaching : While this form of teaching does not include
technology, it is an enriching experience for the student as well as the faculty.
The teacher can link the educational content with the experiences that the
students are having. This teaching is further enhanced and deepened by
adding questions related to the subject. The students can then add to the
classroom discussions through field trip notes, photographic projects and
other group assignments related to the trip.
 Teaching through collaboration : Another innovative method of
teaching involves encouraging student collaboration for various projects.
Today, we live in a globalized world and collaboration is an essential life skill
that is important for all careers and enterprises. Today, collaboration as a
form of teaching is gaining acceptance as a powerful teaching tool where
once again the responsibility is on the group of students are the educators
play to the role of guides, mentors, supervisors for the students. It also teaches
students empathy, negotiation skills, teamwork, and problem-solving. Free
exchange of ideas among the group members through discussions and
presentation not only leverages on time and effort but also enhances teaching
and communication skills besides imbibing the virtue of self-study.
 Teaching through virtual reality : This is one of the innovative policy typically
for KMS. Virtual Reality technology involves helping students learn through
interactions with a 3D world. For instance, instead of taking the students
through a boring history class, the teachers can use 3D technology to explore
ancient civilizations, travel to distant countries for a class in geography or
even take a trip to outer space during a class on science.
 Teaching with cloud computing : Bring technology into the classroom allows
educators to experiment with innovative methods of teaching. The use of
cloud computing is one such method where teachers can save vital classroom
resources such as lesson plans, notes, audio lessons, videos, and assignments
details on the classroom cloud. This can then be accessed by the students from
the comfort of their homes, whenever needed bringing the classroom back to
the students with the click on a mouse. It also ensures that students who have
missed class either for illness or any other reason stay updated at all times. It
eliminates the need for lugging around heavy textbooks and allows students
to learn at a time, place and pace that they are comfortable with.
 Flipped Classroom : The Flipped Classroom Model basically
involves encouraging students to prepare for the lesson before class. Thus, the
class becomes a dynamic environment in which students elaborate on what
they have already studied. Students prepare a topic at home so that the class
5
the next day can be devoted to answering any questions they have about the
topic. This allows students to go beyond their normal boundaries and explore
their natural curiosity.
 Design thinking (case method) : This technique is based on resolving real-life
cases through group analysis, brainstorming, innovation and creative
ideas. Although “Design Thinking” is a structured method, in practice it can
be quite messy as some cases may have no possible solution
 Project base learning : Project Based Learning (PBL) is an instructional
methodology encouraging students to learn by applying knowledge and skills
through an engaging experience. PBL presents opportunities for deeper
learning in-context and for the development of important skills tied to college
and career readiness. We at Kingston use such pedagogies to help our
students internalize and implement their classroom lessons in real life.
 Gamification : Learning through the use of games is one of the teaching
methods that has already been explored especially in elementary and
preschool education. By using games, students learn without even
realizing. Therefore, learning through play or ‘Gamification‘ is a learning
technique that can be very effective at any age. It is also a very useful
technique to keep students motivated.
 E-learning with various tools : Covid-19 has pushed forcefully the rapid
digitalization process amongst all the education industries. Kingston took this
opportunity to build its competency in the E-learning segment. We as an
organisation helped our Faculties and Professors learn about Instructional
Designing which leads to high-quality academic resources being created by
them for our students. Kingston has implemented various ed-tech tools
including an LMS to facilitate the implementation of E-learning across its
academic units.
 Guest lecturer and conference : Eminent Professor of National/International
repute will be invited to the campus for Guest Lecturer before the institute
fraternity. Seminars (National/International) on various relevant themes shall
be organised.

Chapter 2 Our policy :

Mentorship : The Kingston Educational Institute matches college students with

professionals both in-house and external who provide advice, guidance and
leadership as the students embark on their academic and career journeys.

This pioneering initiative was launched in March 2018, and ever more professionals
are joining as mentors. They are matched to mentees according to the educational
qualifications and work experience of the mentor, and the college course and career
aims of the student.

Through their mentors, students gain confidence, learn about work life and are able
to meet other professionals.

Equal Education Opportunity Policy : The aim of this policy is to enable people to
pursue their educational and vocational goals without impairment by factors
irrelevant to the requirements of their chosen programme of study and/or career.
Student complaint and appeal Policy : KEI takes student complaints and appeals
seriously and is committed to ensuring that there is a responsive and equitable
process designed to resolve issues in a timely and impartial manner and to improve
the institute’s performance.
Assessment and moderation : Assessment is an integral part of the teaching and
learning processes and moderation is a key component of best practice assessment.
The assessment and moderation principles, practices and processes are designed to
ensure accountability and commitment to continuous improvement to teaching and
learning. The Assessment and Moderation policy applies to all staff at KEI that
deliver to learners, including permanent; full-time; part-time; and contracted staff;
Academic Staff Members; Senior Academic Staff Members; Principal Academic Staff
Members and Team Managers. Through the policy KEI will : -
 develop assessment procedures for programmes and modules that
reflect the key principles of sound assessment practice of validity,
reliability, authenticity, sufficiency, consistency, fairness and openness;
 provide support in assessment design to reinforce KEI’s approach to
teaching and learning and programme and module design, and to
ensure the reciprocal relationship between assessment, learning
outcomes and learning activities are appropriate and well aligned;
 guide assessment design to mitigate instances of academic misconduct
 promote higher levels of consistency and reliability when making
judgements about student performance.
 encourage ongoing professional discussion and reflection about the
validity and reliability of assessment procedures at KEI leading where
necessary to a review of moderation systems/processes.

9
 ensure that records of all moderation reports are stored and available
for inspection/validation by accrediting bodies at any time.

Factors of assessments :
 General assessments
 Assessment by Components
 Assessment and moderation on core concepts.
 Competency based assessment
 Examination
 Formative Assessments
 Review
 Test

Departmental meeting : The most common way for people in a department to talk
together is in a department meeting, which is the focus of this section, but there
are other ways as well. Some time can be saved by settling straightforward
matters through e-mail. Conversely, discussing complex issues through email
can waste time.

It's difficult to predict what the issues may be that need collective discussion; it
could be almost anything that is not susceptible to a quick yes or no answer.
Here are some of the issues that tend to come up:

 curriculum: everything from individual plans for a new course to changes

in major requirements. This is an important topic to bring up in the fall, in
case you need to get started on proposals.
 delegation of departmental tasks: if you put these up on a board for all to
see, it may be easier to divide up responsibilities equitably.
 events planning (for majors, speakers, information sessions, etc.).
 course scheduling for the next year: some aspects can be done by
communication with individuals. Many chairs do an initial solicitation to
individuals, asking what their preferences are for teaching in the coming
two-year period. Then they make up a draft schedule, and have a
department meeting so everyone can look it over together and work
things out..
 budget: review of previous year's expenditures; discussion of any unusual
expenditures expected/needed in the coming year or two.
 admission issues: You might invite counsellors from the Admission
Office to a meeting in order to talk with the department-to familiarize
new people in Admission with the department, or all people in Admission
with new faculty and/or new curricular developments in the department.
10
 assessment: You might invite the Director of Institutional Research to
discuss your department's assessment plan in the context of college-wide
assessment.

Student feedback and Faculty Performance : All the Units of Kingston Educational
institute regularly conduct online /offline students feedback depending upon
which faculty performance are assessed. Based on the feedback, teachers were
informed about their strengths and weaknesses in a confidential manner. A
uniform opportunity was then provided to these teachers for 3 months to
improve their teaching skills. At the end of the period, again a questionnaire
was administered to both the students and the teachers to assess the
effectiveness of the feedback system.

Evaluation procedure : Our Evaluation Process has its four different aspects namely:

(i) Objectives,

(ii) Learning experiences,

(iii) Learner appraisal and the, and

(iv) Relationship between the three

We look after and try to improve the following areas by going through the
Evaluation Process:-

(i) Teaching:

KEI Evaluation is concerned with assessing the effectiveness of teaching,

teaching strategies, methods and techniques. It provides feedback to the teachers
about their teaching and the learners about their learning.

(ii) Curriculum:

The improvement in courses/curricula, texts and teaching materials is brought

about with the help of evaluation

Teaching Methodology : The Various Units of KEI normally follows the

following Teaching methodology for the best interest of the students:-

11
 The curricula for UG and PG programmes are designed to be
predominantly classroom-friendly along with some practical-
based/experiential learning through labs and fieldwork. To enthuse
students, additional activities such as workshops, student club activities,
short-term projects, quizzes, etc. are regularly encouraged.
 Use of multi-media/AV (Audio-Visual)/ICT (Information and
Communication Technology) based learning techniques
 Regular usage of Projectors
 Inquiry-based learning through quizzing, MCQs, etc.
 Student seminars, webinars and workshops
 Periodic evaluation through internal tests
 Availability of E-resources
 Group Discussions- Group learning-Assignments-Cooperative learning
