 A young architect, fruit of Technological University of the Philippines – Cavite and Manila Campus, Batch 2017
and 2020 respectively, former Artists’ Club Vice President- Internal (2017) and former Executive Secretary
(2016), who is a passionate about sharing knowledge and learning from others.
 Started with a directionless college life (which is ironic to some of her achievements), now slowly learning to
love Architecture even more.
 Currently applying her knowledge to real life as a Junior Architect at MVMG Construction Services.
 Co-established Catworks Construction on 2020, a Design and Build firm by their own family, led by his brother,
Engr. Jonel Catalan.
 One of her credo is to “Trust the Lord will all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all your
ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

Career Assessment Gabay: Pagtuklas sa Malawak na Industriya ng Arkitektura

Kung ano po mga possible career if graduate in BGT and kung ano naman po kapag nagpatuloy ng BS
Architecture and some tips po sana about sa buhay in real life gaano sya kaiba sa school.

Actually same ng Art sa Cavite before. Ang advantage lang kasi Baccalaureate sya so may mga ibang abenefits
like if magwork ka sa ibang field, pwede ka mapromote to manegerial position kasi 4 year course na sya. Aside
from that If same curriculum yung sa Manila and Cavite, mas may knowledge and practice na sila sa mga digital
tools
If gusto nila magturo, pwede rin, kasi 4 year course sya. Need lang nila magmasteral para makapagturo ng bgt
subjects
Pwede rin sila magtayo ng construction firm as partner with architects and engineers
Good afternoon, Arkis! I am Jean Catalan, graduate of Architecture Technology in TUP-
Cavite and BS Architecture in TUP-Manila.

So, I will start this talk with a story. My turning point story.

Back then, Architecture Technology pa ang offered course sa TUPC. 3-year course yon
then magka qualifying exam muna, and yung mga papasa is makaka continue ng BS
Architecture sa TUP Manila. Though after 3 years naman sa Architecture Tech, graduate
na rin naman kami with diploma.

So yon, day ng release of results. Actually almost exactly 4 years ago. Kaka throwback
lang kasi last week ng mga FB post ko nung time na yun. March din kasi yun. Nirelease
yung result, and yun sad to say, wala ako sa list of names ng nakapasa. Sobrang
mahalaga samin na makapasa sa TUP Manila dahil 3 years lang ang pag BS dun unlike sa
ibang school na 4 years and up. Kaming mga hindi nakapasa, nag iisip na kami kung
paano ba. Una, kung pano sasabihin sa magulang? Haha. Pangalawa, kung mag aaral ba
kami sa ibang school o magtatrabaho na lang agad? Actually iyakan lahat non nung
narelease yung result kasi parang dun madedetermine yung next step ng future namin.

But, dahil birthday ko non at malakas ako kay Lord, after ilang days, nagrelease ng
second list ang TUP Manila. And sa second list na yon, kasama na ko. Sobrang maga pa
ng mata ko non. From down na down to feeling blessed. Sobrang blessing talaga nung
moment na yun, hindi ko malilimutan.

So yon, to summarize, I have somehow experienced both sides. Same with the question
inside your head. After ko sa course na ito, tutuloy pa ba ko o hindi na?

So here are some comparisons na hopefully makatulong sa inyo magdecide.

Possible Work ng BGT AT are Draftsman/ CAD Operator/ 3D Renderer. Familiar na ba
kayo sa applications na AutoCAD, Sketchup, Vray, Lumion, Enscape, Twin Motion, Revit,
3DSMax? Yan ang mga pagsasawaan nyo. Pag draftsman, ikaw yung tutulong sa
Architect when it comes to technical drawings. Kumbaga the Architect is the brain, at sa
Draftsman naman ang mga kamay na gagawa. If gusto ng BGT AT grad na magturo,
pwede rin, kasi 4 year-course sya. Need lang nila magmasteral para makapagturo ng bgt
subjects. Pwede rin sila magtayo ng construction firm as partner with architects and
engineers.

Pag BSA Graduate ka, after grad mo, mag uundergo ka ng 2-year apprenticeship
mentored by a Licensed Architect bago ka makapag board exam. Pag napasa mo ang
ALE, and Licensed Architect kana, allowed kana pumirma at kumuha ng mga sarili mong
projects as an Architect.

Sa License, BGT AT as a draftsman is NOT allowed to sign plans. A draftsman is NOT

allowed to take the work of a Licensed Architect. Hindi nag aral ng napakahaba at nagpa
License si Architect para i-disrespect ni Draftsman ang profession nya. This is one of the
major problem in our industry. Some clients entrust the planning and designing of their
dream houses or projects to a Draftsman/Contractor kasi mapapamura daw. Obviously,
ang sagot ay HINDI. Architects are professionals na nagdedesign and plan considering
the long term effect. Hindi drawings ang binabayaran sa kanila, kundi yung solution nila
para mabigyan ng komportableng dwelling ang kliyente base sa wants, needs and
budget nito.

Going back to your course, here are some Possible Questions you may ask:

1. As a BGT AT graduate, ilang years pa icocontinue ko sa BS Architecture?
Answer: 3 years minimum (walang bagsak, depende din sa school)
Base sa mga kakilala kong BGT AT at nagcontinue ng BSA, NU (National University) is the
best option for continuing to BS Architecture dahil makecredit lahat ng subjects.

2. Pwede ba ako mag continue sa TUP Manila?

Answer: As per our professor, bawal. Pag bachelor grad ka na sa State University (TUP)
tapos magbabachelor ka ulit, sabi nya unfair daw na gagastusan ka ulit ng gobyerno
dahil free tuition. (Better to inquire on TUP-Manila Registrar for this)

3. Paano pag sa public school ako nag continue?

Answer: Base sa mga kakilala kong BGT AT at nagcontinue ng BSA, uulit sa umpisa kasi
30 units lang makecredit.

So yon, hopefully nakatulong to sa inyo. Now I’m ending my talk with some tips about
continuing to BS and the life after school. Continuing to BS Architecture, nako, BE
PREPARED. Gaya ng sinabi ni Ma’am Jenny Feraer samin before nya kami pakawalan dito
sa TUPC, walang wala pa yung hirap na pinagdadaanan nyo ngayon compared sa BS. It is
normal to feel the fear pero wag kayo umatras. Dun nyo makikita kung gano kayo
kalakas. Kung kinaya namin, kayang kaya nyo din! And after grad, the life after school is
very different. Life pressure is real. May mga obligations kana and lahat ng decisions mo
magmamatter kasi pakikinggan kana. Just enjoy both seasons. Being a student and soon
