Introduction
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored flagship public service
program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India.
Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji's Centenary year in 1969. Aimed
at developing student's personality through community service, NSS is a voluntary association of
young people in Colleges, Universities and at +2 level working for a campus-community (esp.
Villages) linkage.
The programme aims to instill the idea of social welfare in students, and to provide service to
society without bias. NSS volunteers work to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to
enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity. In doing so, volunteers learn from people
in villages how to lead a good life despite a scarcity of resources. It also provides help in natural
and man-made disasters by providing food, clothing and first aid to the disaster's victims.
There are two types of activities: Regular Activities(120 hours) and Annual Special Camp(120
hours). All the NSS Volunteers who have served NSS for at least 2 years and have performed 240
hours of work under NSS are entitled to a certificate from the university under the signature of the
Vice-Chancellor and the Programme Coordinator. The Annual camps are known as Special
Camps. Camps are held annually, funded by the government of India, and are usually located in a
rural village or a city suburb. Volunteers may be involved in such activities as:
1. Cleaning
2. Afforestation
3. Stage shows or a procession creating awareness of such issues as social problems,
education and cleanliness
4. Awareness Rallies
5. Inviting doctors for health camps
6. Community Survey
7. Teaching Underprivileged KIds
There are no predefined or pre assigned tasks; it is left up to the volunteers to provide service in
any way that is feasible. Camps typically last between a week and 10 days, although camps for
shorter periods are also conducted by NSS.
5
At national level, India is the nodal authority, which works with state-level NSS cells. State-level
NSS cells have responsibility of the respective state governments. Within states, each university
has a University level NSS cell under which institutions (schools and colleges) based NSS units
operate. Most government and government-aided institutions have volunteer NSS units.
Institutions are encouraged to have NSS volunteers. A unit typically comprises 20–40 students.
They are managed internally by a responsible party from the school or college, who reports to the
regional NSS coordinator. Most institutions do not have a separate uniform for NSS volunteers as
one of the great and dedicated toward welfare of India Captain.
The academic year 2020-2021, unlike any others, was a peculiar year. Full of challenges
and limitations, it was quite a task to successfully implement events that not only prove
useful to our student volunteers, but also imprint values and responsibilities on them which
they must hold on to in times like these. The NSS wing of Bhagwan Parshuram Institute
Of Technology, along with Drishti: Rotaract Club Of BPIT was able to organise and
collaborate in 9 successful events this academic year, each involving an important aspect
of holistic development.

World Environment Day
Date: 31th May 2021
Introduction:
We cannot turn back time. But we can grow trees, green our cities, rewild
our gardens, change our diets and clean up rivers and coasts. We are the
generation that can make peace with nature. World Environment Day
(WED) is celebrated annually on 5 June and is the United Nations' principal
vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the
environment. First held in 1974, it has been a platform for raising
awareness on environmental issues such as marine pollution, human
overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption, and wildlife
crime. World Environment Day is a global platform for public outreach, with
participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, the program has
provided a theme and forum for businesses, non-government
organizations, communities, governments, and celebrities to advocate
environmental causes. This year the NSS Unit of BPIT decided to spread
awareness about plants that we have in our home and learn about their
scientific name and uses.
8
On the world environment day, we all take a day off from our work. And join
various campaigns to spread awareness about environment protection.
Moreover, we all plant small saplings in a barren land so that it may grow and
flourish in the land area after some years. Also, we take part in various
processions to make people aware of this day. So that they may also take part
in protecting our environment.
Furthermore, in schools, the teachers teach the students the methods to plant
a tree. The school provides buses to take the students to the jungles. There
they come to know about the different types of plants. And the types of
vegetation in which they survive. Also, the students have to bring a sapling
from their homes and plant them inside the ground. This helps them in getting
practical knowledge. Further, it also creates an emotional attachment to the
environment.

Yoga Bhyaas
Date:21th June 2021
Introduction
To celebrate International Yoga Day, on 21st June 2021, the NSS cell of
Bhagwan Parshuram Institute of Technology organized an event of yoga
where we were fortunate enough to have with us Dr. Poonam Kathuria.
Poonam ma'am is an associate professor in Applied Chemistry and
Environmental Science with a teaching experience of more than 21 years.
She's also the Cultural and NSS Coordinator of BPIT. An active member of
BHARTIYA YOG SANSTHAN since 1996, she has taught Yog to various
people in NCR and across other cities in India. Under the banner of BYS,
she has opened free yoga centers in California, USA. Ma'am has also
provided yog training sessions to various national and international
corporations as well. From ancient methodologies to modern techniques,
each avenue about yoga was attempted to be visited. While making each
seminar interactive, an online meeting platform named MS Teams was
used and a live telecast was also telecasted on our youtube channel. The
idea of an International Day of Yoga was first proposed by the current
Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, during his speech at the United
Nations General Assembly (UNGA), on 27 September 2014. He stated:
Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of
mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony
between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is
11
not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the
world, and nature. Changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can
help in well-being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.
— Narendra Modi, UN General Assembly Following this initial proposal, the
UN adopted the draft resolution, entitled ``Day of Yoga", in 2014. The
consultations were convened by the delegation of India. In 2015 Reserve
Bank of India issued a 10 rupees commemorative coin to mark the
International Day of Yoga. In April 2017, the UN Postal Administration
(UNPA) issued 10 stamps on Asanas on a single sheet to mark the
International Day of Yoga. Summaryof the Event On 21st June 2021, the
7th International Yoga Day was celebrated via an online event "Yogabhyas"
organized by the NSS Cell, BPIT. The event was commemorated by online
lamp lighting, followed by a speech from the honorable Dean of
Administration, Professor Abhijit Nayak. Respected Founder Director
A.K.Tandon sir shared his views and experiences related to yog and its
importance in our daily life. He told us the significance of the date and told
us that Shiva is considered to be the origin of yoga, he is the Adiyogi, the
first yogi (adi ="first"). Summer solstice holds importance in the yogic
culture as it is considered to be the very beginning of yoga. Yoga was
brought to the people by the Saptarishis - the story says that Shiva was
sitting in blissful meditation for years, many people flocked to him out of
curiosity but left as he never paid attention to anyone. But seven people
stayed, they were so determined to learn from Shiva, that they sat still for
84 years. After this, on the day of the summer solstice, when the sun was
shifting from the northern to the southern run, Shiva took notice of these 7
beings - he could no longer ignore them. The next full moon, 28 days later,
Shiva turned into the Adiguru (the first guru), and transmitted the science of
yoga to the Saptarishis. The speaker of the day was Dr. Poonam Kathuria,
12
a respected member of BYS since 1996. Ma'am talked about the effects of
yoga on our body and mind. She along with her fellow demonstrators from
BYS displayed some yoga postures which were in turn performed by the
attending students. The demonstration was followed by a Q/A session
where all the queries were answered by Dr. Poonam Kathuria. To mark the
end of a successful event, Dr. Arunima Kumari gave the last vote of thanks

WORLD POPULATION DAY (JULY)
The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nation

environment and population.
The main goal of this day is to focus the attention of the world on the
importance of population issues. We can't ignore the fact that the COVID-
19 pandemic disturbed and staggered people, communities, and
economies everywhere.

FEEDING STRAY ANIMALS
Introduction
In our busy schedule, we sometimes never give a second thought to
animals like cats, dogs wandering in our neighborhood and generally tend
to ignore them.
Sometimes, it’s the bark of a dog or chilling howl of a cat that grabs our
attention for a short spell and then we forget, but we don’t realize that what
we forget as humans is that we have a responsibility to help, care and look
after the needy and helpless creatures who depend on us.
19
To fill their hunger.
So the next time you see a stray animal where you maybe make sure you stop by and feed
them and make them feel secure and safe.

Teaching Children
INTRODUCTION:
It is the experience good to diagnose the way they are living, the kids did
not expect a lot from us, they like to learn, ofcourse, the way of learning
and attending differs as the environment that prevail make them learning
difficult.
23
Mask Donation
Creating awareness among the people about the covid was a
challenging part as they were not quite aware of the
consequences of not wearing masks in public places and
following the SOPS given by the government to avoid fatalities in
the country. So, I took the initiative of giving masks and telling
them wearing masks would not only save them from this lethal
disease but also their family and the whole country.

The event started with the swachhta E-pledge taking ceremony by
the NSS volunteers, faculty, and staff members.
Mahatma Gandhi dreamt of an India which was not only free but
also clean and developed. Mahatma Gandhi secured freedom for
Mother India. Now it is our duty to serve Mother India by keeping
the country neat and clean. I take this pledge that I will remain
committed towards cleanliness and devote time for this.
I will devote 100 hours per year, that is two hours per week, to
voluntarily work for cleanliness. I will neither litter not let others
litter. I will initiate the quest for cleanliness with myself, my family,
my locality, my village and my work place.
I believe that the countries of the world that appear clean are so
because their citizens don't indulge in littering nor do they allow it
to happen.

C.V Building Webinar
Date: 26th sept 2021
Introduction:
An exclusive webinar session organized On 26 September 2021,
by Drishti's Rotaract club of BPIT on CV building. Here our guest
Speaker Ms Ankita Gaur presented the attendees with a detailed
explanation of CV building to maximize their job opportunities and
help them reach their goals faster. Most people will only ever think
about their Curriculum Vitae (CV) when they are looking for a job.
It’s obviously pretty important in those circumstances, but it needs
to live and breathe between roles to ensure it’s always up-to-date
and reflects the best possible version of you at all times. The term
‘curriculum vitae’ is Latin for ‘the story of your life’, so your CV, or
resumé, should be a fundamental document in your professional
arsenal. When applying for work, it can literally be the difference
between your life going one way or another. It’s a story that stars
you alone, so needs to be shown in the best possible light. When
applying for a job, whether it’s your first one, a completely new
one or a promotion within the same organisation, your CV is the
first chance you have to make a good impression. It’s the thing
43
that has to set you apart in the minds of the recruiter, based
purely on the words on the page they have in front of them. The
importance of a well-written CV can not be underestimated. You
are the best candidate for any job that you want. We are sure you
believe that; if you don’t, you should start thinking that way. As the
best person, your CV needs to reflect that. Your skills, your
personality, your experience and everything you can bring to the
table has to be written down in a way that transmits this
eloquently to those reading it. It’s going to be the difference
between it landing on the ‘interview’ pile and ‘thanks-but-no-
thanks’ pile.

JAVASCRIPT SESSION
Date: 14th -15th dec 2021
Introduction:
JavaScript is a programming language used primarily by Web browsers to
create a dynamic and interactive experience for the user. Most of the
functions and applications that make the Internet indispensable to modern
life are coded in some form of JavaScript.
The earliest incarnations of JavaScript were developed in the late 1990s for
the Netscape Navigator Web browser. At the time, Web pages were static,
offering little user interaction beyond clicking links and loading new pages.
For the first time, JavaScript enabled animation, adaptive content and form
validation on the page.
In this rtr. Shivangi Dubey introduced the participants with the basics of
JavaScript helping them step into the domain of web development.

Panel Discussion on Sexuality
Date: 1 May 2022
Introduction:
Sexuality is diverse, and there are many different types. It can
take time to figure out the sexuality that fits you best. And your
sexuality can change over time. Coming to terms with your
sexuality can be a very liberating, exciting and positive
experience. Sexuality is an important part of who you are. There
is no right or wrong, it’s about what’s right for you. Some people
have a hard time accepting others who are different to
themselves. If someone gives you a hard time about your
sexuality, it’s good to talk to someone about it. You don’t need to
deal with it by yourself.

World Environment Day
Date: 5th June 2022
Introduction:
World Environment day is celebrated on the 5th of June every
year. More than 100 countries Worldwide join in the celebration of
the World Environment day. It was started by the United Nations
Environmental Program in the year 1973 and has been continuing
till now. The main purpose of celebrating this day is to spread
awareness about the Environment.
The Environment is one of the most important tools for our survival
on planet Earth. The Environment nurtures us and helps us survive.
We cannot imagine life without air, water and soil. The biotic
components like plants and animals are also important survival
tools. Plants help purify the air around us. We get food from plants
and animals.
68
upon and a pledge to combat that problem is taken that year. For
example for the year 2019, the theme was air pollution.
69
In addition, it also encourages them to be active in developing
Environmental protection measures. Not only that, but it also
encourages everyone to keep their Environment safe and clean so
that everyone has a clean, green and prosperous future.

E-course about Drugs
Awareness
Date: 5th June 2022
Introduction:
Abuse of prescription drugs has become a more serious problem
than most street drugs. Painkillers, tranquilizers, antidepressants,
sleeping pills and stimulants may appear “safe” due to being
prescribed by doctors, but they can be just as addictive and
potent as the heroin or cocaine sold on the street. The painkiller
OxyContin, for example, is as powerful as heroin and affects the
body in the same way. Continued use of painkillers, depressants
(“downers”), stimulants (“uppers”) or antidepressants can lead to
addiction—and painful withdrawal symptoms for those who try to
quit.
72
breathing, nausea and unconsciousness. Abuse can lead to
addiction.

74
No tobacco Pledge
Date: 6th June 2022
Introduction:
Smoking leads to disease and disability and harms nearly every
organ of the body.
More than 16 million Americans are living with a disease caused
by smoking. For every person who dies because of smoking, at
least 30 people live with a serious smoking-related illness.
Smoking causes cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung diseases,
diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD),
which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Smoking also
increases risk for tuberculosis, certain eye diseases, and
problems of the immune system, including rheumatoid arthritis.
consumption:
1. Cancer Risk
Whether you are puffing on a cigarette, a cigar, pipe, hookah or
chewing tobacco, the most fearful outcome of regular
75
consumption of tobacco is an increased risk of cancers in your
body which can take away your life, health and wealth.
2. Lung Damage
Your lungs have delicate little air sacks that cannot survive an
onslaught of constant smoking. The smoke also damages the air
passages leading in and out of the lungs. Once you begin to
smoke regularly, infection sets in.
• Shortness of breath
• Wheezing
• Coughing up phlegm
• Extremely laboured breathing
• Hypoxia (low levels of oxygen in the blood)
4. Heart Disorders –
Smoking causes your blood pressure to soar which makes you
susceptible to Peripheral Arterial Disease. Plaque starts to
accumulate along your blood vessels. This thickens them and
makes them inflexible which restricts the supply of blood to the
heart..
