What is Tet? - Tet is Vietnam’s main holiday. Tet marks the beginning of spring and, for agrarian people, the start of a new year. 2. When is Tet holiday in Vietnam? - It is the grandest and most important occasion in the year which falls sometimes between 19th January and 20th February on the Western calendar. 3. What do people often do to prepare for Tet? - To prepare for Tet, people buy gifts, clean and decorate their houses and cook traditional foods. People also make Banh chung or Mut. They are very busy at this occasion. 4. What do you usually do at Tet? - I usually help my parents with the housework. My mom and I go to the market to buy flower, food. On first day of New Year, I go to my grandparents’ house. Next day, I go to my teacher’s house. My friends also come to my house at Tet holiday. We have a meal together. 5. What activity do you enjoy doing most at Tet? Why? - I enjoy watching firework at Tet because firework shooting announces the arriving of a New Year. I often go with my friends. After watching firework, we often go to the pagodas to pray for a successful year. *A COMPETITION/ CONTEST 1. Have you ever seen or taken part in a competition? - I have taken part in a competition. I want to get knowledge and improve my skills so I took part in it. 2. What type of competition was it? - I took part in singing competition. I am keen on music so I want to show my ability. 3. Who organized it? - It was organized by my teachers at school. They organized many contests during our school year. 4. Who participated in it? - My friends and me joined in it. There are also many students from different classes participated in this competitions. We could meet a lot of new friends. 5. Who won the competition? - My close friend won the first prize in the competition and I got the third prize. Although I didn’t get the highest result, I felt really happy. 6. Do you enjoy it? Why/ why not? - I enjoy the competition very much because I could make new friends, I could watch wonderful performances. *VOLUNTEER WORK 1. Would you like to work as a volunteer? - Yes, of course. I would like to work as a volunteer because I want to help people. 2. Have you ever done any volunteer work? - Yes, I have. I helped children who can’t go to school. I showed them how to read and how to write. 3. Is volunteering worth the time it takes? - Yes, it is. When we work as a volunteer, we can receive happiness and the people who are helped can have a better life. 4. Why do people enjoy volunteering? - I think people enjoy volunteering because the want to take care of other people. They want to better our life. 5. Do students work as volunteers in Vietnam? - Yes. Students in Vietnam often work as volunteers. They can volunteer as individuals, in groups or with their families. 6.
