Reflection Essay

In this essay I want to write about my expressions about the presentation that
my classmates prepared and showed us in detail. They compared and examined
two global companies that produce movies and shows for all ages, namely Netflix
and HBO. Before I saw their presentation, I always thought that Netflix as such
had no competitors, but it turned out that there were TV companies that could
compete with them.
First of all, they immediately showed us their main competitors and told us
their strengths, which allows them to compete with Netflix. In my opinion, the best
solution would have been to tell us about Netflix's strengths first. You should also
include information about the disadvantages of both sides in the presentation,
because no matter how good a product is, its disadvantages can absolutely eclipse
its good side.
They did a great job of explaining about the target audience of these
companies. It was this passage from the presentation that I remembered the most. I
mistakenly perceived Netflix as kings in their category since they very often please
us with new announcements, but in fact they are just targeting our age group
starting with teens and thoroughly choosing people under 30, which HBO does not,
choosing a more extensive and less interested audience.
If you consider the informative part of the presentation, I understood a lot
from their presentation. Looking at both platforms, it's hard for HBO to compete
with Netflix. The red N platform offers a very extensive catalog with free access to
more than 4,000 content, as well as various pricing plans that allow you to join
other users to enjoy content as a group. In addition, Netflix has officially
announced that it will soon offer free streaming games to all of its subscribers,
positioning the platform as an ideal option for the whole family. For its part, HBO
has a flat rate plan and a much smaller catalog. Nevertheless, it has some of the
most highly rated games by critics and users alike, making it an ideal addition for
users. HBO has many advantages, and so does Netflix, both are good, but there are
many differences between them. It is compatible to have both and almost not
recommended because of the difference in content, in the series. They are not the
only ones, and the two major companies have competition from other streaming
platforms, but they are still some of the most popular, so it is hard to choose one or
the other. From the presentation, I got a good sense of what each offers in all areas:
quality of releases, price, profiles, downloads, etc.
Otherwise, they briefly went over the most important points, and I didn't
have to think long about my clear favorite: HBO has only one plan, while Netflix
has three different plans. Netflix: Up to four concurrent sessions, depending on the
plan you subscribe to. While HBO: Up to two concurrent sessions of a series or
movie on a single profile or account. Video quality is also different: HBO's current
quality is FullHD, and so far we can't watch in 4K, which Netflix allows us to do.
In Netflix you can create up to five personal profiles, while in HBO such a feature
is completely absent. All in all, we can say that Netflix is already way ahead of
HBO on things like: number of registered devices, parental controls, new releases,
convenience of viewing, catalog, children's content, etc.
In conclusion, I can say that I really liked the way the slides were very clear
and minimalistic, it was very easy to focus on the presentation topic and
understand the information. Also, I would have added a lot because the topic is
very open, but they were very clever in fitting everything into the timeline and
emphasizing the main points. They were especially good at communicating about
the target audience of both companies.
