Things to Try When Creating Melodies
• Keep it Simple
• Try sticking to 1/4 notes or 1/8 notes
• Try using MIDI Effects: Ableton/Push2’s Scale Functions and Arp
• Try arpeggiating the note order differently -
ex. Just by going “downward” your melody becomes “sadder”
• On a chord Progression - Try to copy a random note in the first chord and shift it up an octave -
extend that note over your entire progression
• Try making a 2 chord progression - dup it - add and extension to the third chord
• Try SideChaining your Time Based Effects
• Try Plug-Ins like HalfTime and GrossBeat
Trap Melodies
Things to Try When Manipulating Loops
• Try to start with good source material
• Try to tune loop before manipulating
• Try employing Simpler/Sampler/Slice to MIDI
• Try using the Ableton’s analog filter models
• Try to side-chain your time based effects (reverb and delay)
• Try employing plug-ins like HalfTime and GrossBeat
