CIRCLE
Center at (0,0)

𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 = 42
Standard Equation:
𝑥2 + 𝑦2 = 𝑟2 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 = 𝟏𝟔

CIRCLE
Sample Problem
Determine the standard equation of a circle with center at (0,0)
and intersects the point (-5,0).
𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 = (5)2
𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 = 𝟐𝟓
r=5

CIRCLE
Sample Problem
If the diameter of a circle with center at (0,0) is 6, determine the
two points where the circle intersects with the y-axis. (0,3)

diameter = 6 3
radius = 3

CIRCLE
Sample Problem
If the general equation of the circle is 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 − 𝟑𝟔 = 𝟎, what are
the points of intersection of the circle to the x-axis?

General Equation : 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 − 𝟑𝟔 = 𝟎

Standard Equation : 𝒙𝟐 + 𝒚𝟐 = 𝟑𝟔

𝒓𝟐 = 𝟑𝟔
𝒓=𝟔
