System description 3
General
MUSIC 710λ (ML70A 091) and MUSIC 711λ (ML70C 089) are network
access devices designed for use at the customer location. They allow the
integrated access of POTS and Ethernet Data services. They will be referred
on their common aspects as MUSIC 700λ in this document.
These units must be connected to an xDSL partner device in the
UMUX 1500/1200 via one or two copper pairs. At present the following
partner devices are available:
• LESI8 092
• SLID1 493
• SLID2 494
Configuration of these units is performed remotely from the network
operations centre via the partner device.
Local configuration of the MUSIC 700λ units is neither possible nor required.
Detailed information on MUSIC 700λ is provided in the documents
«Technical Description ML70A 091 - ML70C 089 - ML70E 093»
and «User Guide ML70A 091 - ML70C 089 - ML70E 093».

System description

Client interfaces
LAN interfaces On the rear panel of the desktop unit are two independent 10BaseT /
100BaseTx LAN interfaces with auto-negotiation. Each LAN interface can be
configured for either bridging or routing.

POTS interfaces (MUSIC 710λ On the rear panel of the unit there are 8 POTS a/b indoor lines, each on a
and MUSIC 711λ) separate connector.

Universal serial interface On the rear panel of the MUSIC 711λ, above the first POTS a/b connector,
on MUSIC 711λ there is an Nx64 kbit/s data interface. This interface is configurable for
speeds of 64 kbit/s up to 1920 kbit/s, and compatible with X.21/V.11, V.35
and V.36 standards.

Universal serial interfaces On the rear panel of the MUSIC 703λ there are three Nx64 kbit/s data
on MUSIC 703λ interfaces. The interfaces are configurable for speeds of 64 kbit/s up to
1920 kbit/s, and compatible with X.21/V.11, V.35 and V.36 standards.

Installation 4
Unpacking and consignment check
First check that the consignment is complete and that the designation of the
delivered items is correct.

Installation of MUSIC700λ
Installation on a desktop 1. Unpack the unit.
2. Four self-gluing rubber pads are placed in a package under the unit.
Press these pads onto the marked positions on the bottom of the case.
3. Place the unit on a stable surface.
4. Plug in the supply cable (AC and/or DC as required).
«Power» LED will turn green.
«Device» LED will turn red.
«LAN1» and «LAN 2» link and activity LEDs will blink twice.
«WAN Link» and «WAN Activity» LEDs will turn orange, and remain
like that for approximately 40 seconds. Then «Activity» is switched off
and «Link» turns to red.
LED behaviour is the same in front and rear panel.

5. Plug in the DSL line in the «WAN (DSL)» connector.

The «WAN Link» LED blinks red during the DSL start up procedure
and turns green once the link is up and running.
Once the link is up, the «WAN Activity» blinks green whenever there
is traffic present on the DSL link.
If the WAN (DSL) link is not active, or if there is a physical problem
with the copper pair transmitting the DSL signal, the «WAN Link»
LED will remain red after connecting the DSL line.
If the WAN (DSL) link is connected and disconnected repeatedly,
allow the MUSIC 700λ unit approximately one minute to stabilise after
the last physical connection of the DSL link has been performed.
The configuration of the MUSIC 700λ is remotely performed from
the network operations centre via the partner device in the UMUX.
No local configuration is required.

Installation

6. Connect data and telephony services.

The green LEDs: LAN1 and LAN2 Link, in the top right corner of the
RJ45 connectors for LAN1 and LAN2 are turned on if the proper cable
is connected and a remote device is available. These are only visible
on the rear panel.

Installation in a rack The 19" rack mounting kit for MUSIC 700λ consists of two brackets, which
will be fastened on the left and right hand side of the MUSIC 700λ case.
The mounting kit for MUSIC 700λ must be ordered separately. It is
placed in the package under the unit.

Two positions of the unit in the rack are possible:

• the front panel of the unit with the LEDs is visible on the front of the rack
• the rear side of the unit with the connectors and LEDs is visible on the
front of the rack.
Depending on the desired position undo the screws on the left and right side
of the unit and fasten the brackets (see illustration below).

If the MUSIC 700λ has to be installed into an ETSI rack, two additional ETSI
brackets must be mounted to the 19" brackets. These ETSI brackets are
optional, they must be ordered separately.
Do not fit the rubber pads if installing the MUSIC 700λ in a rack.

Once the brackets are fastened, the unit is prepared for the rack installation.
After the unit is placed in the rack, please follow steps 4 to 6 of the desktop
installation.
Make sure that ventilation slots of the MUSIC 700λ unit are kept
opened, and that temperature range for operation is respected.
Overheating of the unit will result in loss of service and eventually,
shut down of the unit. Please refer to [251] for details on Heat
Management.

Installation

Electrical connections
• The MUSIC 700λ is powered either by AC mains, or by a 12 VDC source.
• Both the AC and the DC supply can be connected simultaneously to
provide power backup.

AC power supply MUSIC 700λ can be supplied from any 50/60 Hz AC source with a range
from nominal 110VAC up to nominal 240VAC, the input range being from
90 to 264 VAC.

Caution – hazardous voltages inside. Do not open the

MUSIC 700λ unit case.

DC power supply An external 12VDC power supply can be connected via the separate
12 VDC, 2.5 mm jack located on the rear of the unit.

Fuse There is no user replaceable fuse in the device. In case of an inside defect,
the unit must be returned to the service department for repair.

Reset button MUSIC 700λ unit has a reset button, which is hidden behind a small hole
marked «Reset» on the rear panel. This button can be pressed with a
pointed object, e.g. a ball pen.
Do not use a pencil as the lead might break off and cause a short
circuit inside the unit.

After pressing the reset button the control processor of the unit is reset. The
DSL line start procedure takes place and then the MUSIC 700λ receives its
configuration from the partner device in the UMUX.

Never press the reset button unless you have specific instructions
to do so. Pressing this button will set the MUSIC 700λ to its factory
default configuration. This means that all client interfaces will be
deactivated (i.e. POTS and LAN interfaces).
