Such members should be replaced by contractor and no extra costs will be


provided by NIOT.
u. All the steel components should be prefabricated in shop floor as per the dimensions in
the fabrication drawings and is required to be erected at project location.
v. All the steel components should be painted with one coat of primer of specified grade for
protection against weather and corrosion
w. The high strength friction grip (HSFG) bolts of grade 10.9 shall be used for anchoring the
columns. The HSFG bolts shall comply with IS 3757 (Latest revision).
x. The anchor bolts for steel structural works shall be provided along with the reinforcement
(Prior to concreting) at appropriate locations as per the drawings provided by NIOT in
section 5.5 of NIT. The welding of the steel structural members shall comply with
relevant codes and standards. The GI (Galvanized Iron) purlins and roof sheets shall be
provided as per the drawings approved by NIOT.
y. Painting
 All the steel structural members should be cleaned and should be free from dust,
grease and other impurities.
 The blasting of the surface SA 2.5 as per ISO 8501 should be carried out before
applying the primer.
 The members with concrete coating shall be painted only with primer coats (two
coat).All the other members should be externally coated with two coats of epoxy
primer and one coat of outside finish with epoxy paint.
 All the paints/primer should be of marine quality epoxy quality.
 Primer Coat- 2 Distinct Coats of 50 microns each Zinc based epoxy coating on
cleaned and sand blasted components to 2.5 grade as per ISO 8501-1 Standards.
 Finish Coat- 1 Distinct Coat of 100 microns Epoxy Finish coat as per the
required shade.
 For Finish Coat in Structural steel Components:- Epoxy Grey
For Finish Coat of Chequered plate: Coal Tar epoxy
 The contractor can select any one of the following brands AKZO NOBEL/CDC
CARBOLINE/INTERNATIONAL/JOTUN/BERGER Other Brands meeting the
specification shall be used based on the approval received from NIOT.
 All the paints procured along with batch/Test certificate should be submitted to
NIOT for approval before application.
 Inspection will be carried out by NIOT at different stages of painting. All defects
noticed during the inspection should be rectified free of cost by contractor

Frequency of Inspection Should be carried out as per the table no.1. Contractor
should engage a NACE qualified Supervisor to supervise the monitor the work
and to ensure the compliance. The vendor should perform all the test mentioned in
the schedule as per the table -5.3through authorized accredited agencies in the
presence of NIOT Officials .

z. Welding
 The welds with thickness and length provided in the drawings shall be made
conforming to IS 816 (latest revision).
 The heat affected zone (HAZ) shall be allowed to cool naturally .No external
methods for cooling the HAZ rapidly shall be resorted to.
 The surfaces of the members to be welded shall be prepared and should be free of
any contaminations.
 The welding electrodes to be used for welding shall be of marine grade standards
approved by marine classification society.
 The welder deployed for the work should have minimum three years of
experience and the ITI certification.
 Non destructive tests should be made for qualifying the welds.
aa. Concrete coating for members
 The thickness of the concrete coating shall be 75 mm and to be applied on all the
exposed areas of the members.
 The members with concrete coating shall be painted only with primer coats (two
coat).
