Laboratory Activity#1

Forensic laboratory is a facility where forensic scientists try to analyze evidence and
interpret its result to help solve crime. This is very important since crime investigation helps serve
justice. There is several laboratory equipment used in a forensic laboratory.
Directions: Look for at least 5 FORENSIC LABORATORY
EQUIPMENT/APPARATUSES on the internet, then draw it and write its function.

FORENSIC LABORATORY EQUIPMENT FUNCTION

Fume Hoods Fume hoods are important pieces of

equipment in many labs. They help ensure
the health and well-being of employees by
removing chemical fumes. It is common for
them to vent outdoors, but ductless filter-
based models are also available.

Evidence Drying Cabinets Evidence drying cabinets/hoods provide a

secure, ventilated chamber for storing,
drying, and processing wet evidence in a
controlled environment. They provide the
security and infrastructure needed to
maintain the integrity of wet evidence by
protecting it from potential contamination.
These cabinets provide a constant flow of
air to dry evidence effectively and use
innovative filtration technology.
Fentanyl Hoods / Powder Enclosures Bulk powder enclosures are designed to
contain hazardous powders and protect
users from airborne powders. They provide
the ideal solution for forensic labs to safely
manage hazardous drugs such as fentanyl
during manipulation and laboratory
analysis. Standard features include a
horizontal laminar airflow pattern that pulls
particulates away from the users and
through a dual-layer of HEPA filtration.

Filtered Glove Boxes Filtered glove boxes are used in forensic

labs to protect the user from exposure to
potentially hazardous materials. They also
help safeguard evidence sensitive to air or
water vapor. They come in stainless steel
or fiberglass-line ventilated, open-loop,
closed-loop and adjustable-flow
configurations.
Microscope A microscope is an instrument that can be
used to observe small objects, even cells.
The image of an object is magnified through
at least one lens in the microscope. This
lens bends light toward the eye and makes
an object appear larger than it actually is.
