When do we use the verb BE in the past?
The past of BE

We can use the past simple of the verb ‘be’ to talk about situations
and states in the past.
For example:

As in the present, the verb BE in a sentence can be followed by a place, an


adjective, a piece of information, etc.

Remember: The verb BE never describes an action.


The verb BE has two forms in the past…

• I, he, she, it
• My boss
• The class was
• A cat
