Select a destination of your choice
(preferable your home city, state, or
country), which becomes the basis of
research for this entire project. Choose a
location where you will be able to find
enough resources to do comprehensive
research. For example, if I lived in Utah, it
would be easier for me to find research on
tourism in the state of Utah than it would be
for the city of Orem.

Provide a short, concise (50 words or less) description of the location you chose.

HISTORY
Provide a 100–150-word description of your location’s history. Who originally settled it?
Who are the major ethnic groups to live there? Have any major world events happened
there? What about the history might a tourist find interesting? Etc.

WEATHER
Provide a 100–150-word description of the major climate systems in your location.
Describe the weather during different seasons of the year. Does the weather impact the
peak season for tourism in this area? What is the peak season for tourists in this area, and
what is the off-season? What is the weather like for tourists in different seasons? Are
there any times of year they should avoid? Any times they would particularly enjoy? Any
weather-related events (hurricanes, major snow storms, etc.) that might impact a visitor’s
stay? etc.

TOURISM
Provide at least a 250-word description (not including charts and graphics) of the kind of
tourists who visit your location. Where are they from? What are they looking for? How
long do they stay? Describe the top reasons why this location is a great place that people
enjoy venturing to. Also describe the size and scope of the hospitality and tourism

industry in your location. From your readings, you have learned about important
indicators (in other words, number of visitor arrivals, tourist spending, length of stay etc.)
which can be included in the report. Include useful information for tourists such as the
type of currency used in the area.

GETTING TO YOUR LOCATION
List the major ways tourists get to your location.

Air: If air travel is part of your location, provide a brief description of airports located
nearby. How close are they, and what are some airlines that fly to the location? Where are
those airlines based? etc.

Water: If water travel is part of your location, provide a brief description of ports located
nearby. What are some cruise lines or other companies that operate in the location?
Where are those companies based? etc.

Ground: If ground travel is part of your location, provide a brief description of ground
transportation system. What are some companies that operate in the location? Where are
those companies based? etc.

GETTING AROUND YOUR LOCATION


Provide 200–300 words about how to get around your location. Describe how visitors can
get around while visiting this area. Consider the following: How large is the area, and how
do locals usually get around? What modes of transportation are available? Are there
railways, ferries, public transportation, rental car options, taxis, shuttles, or bicycles, or
can people walk? What companies offer their services? What are the approximate costs of
these services?

Itinerary
FUN IN YOUR LOCATION: A ITINERARY FOR AN AUDIENCE
Write a 3–5 day itinerary, suggesting to travelers how they could spend their time while
visiting. Be sure to include activities in which they can engage, accommodations in which
they can stay, and transportation options to get them from place to place. Include
approximate costs for the options you choose.

For each day provide 150–200 words that let people know in what kind of activities and
events they will be participating. If helpful, break it up by time of day (such as morning vs.
afternoon), or locations to which they will be traveling.

Across the full itinerary, provide least 4 activities to include in your itinerary. Make sure
you include top tourist attractions.
