Independent Learning Tasks Booklet 2022
All students have been set Independent Learning Tasks which they are expected to complete as part
of their induction period. Students should download and complete these tasks for each subject on
which they are enrolled.
Independent Learning Tasks can be accessed on the Harris Sixth Form website via this link:
https://www.harrissixthform.org.uk/886/independent-learning-tasks
The independent learning task is designed to support transition between KS4 and KS5. It may form
some of the content relating induction test for each subject, which takes place during the first half
term. More information on these tests will be provided once you start at your new Academy.

Computer Hardware
The PS5 and Xbox Series X were released just under 2 years ago. There has been a lot of
coverage about the hardware specifications of each console. But what do all these new Specs
mean? What is Teraflop!?
In this assignment I have provided you with some key links. You need to write an essay
outlining the key components, what they do and how they work, and compare the
specifications of each console - outside of games which one is better? You'll also look at the
hardware comparisons to the current generation to see what all these new specs will mean and
what they will allow the next generation of games consoles to achieve. As an extension,
compare the upcoming new PC hardware against the games consoles – are they already
out of date!?
Finally, I have attached a list of Websites, Blogs, Vlogs and Podcasts for students to engage
with to learn about the latest technology news as well as a wider understanding of Computer

Pathogens
A pathogen is an organism that causes disease. All a pathogen needs to thrive and survive is a
host, for example a human body. Once the pathogen sets itself up in a host’s body, it manages to
avoid the body’s immune responses and uses the body’s resources to replicate before exiting and
spreading to a new host. Pathogens can be transmitted a few ways depending on the type. They
can be spread through skin contact, bodily fluids, airborne particles, contact with faeces and
touching a surface touched by an infected person
