BENDING AND FLARING AND SWAGING TECHNIQUES FOR COPPER TUBES USE IN REFRIFERATION.

OBJECTIVES (kindly fill this with 3 objectives which you think is important for the student to learn in this topic)

1. To familiarize different techniques used in piping.

2. To understand the difference among the three techniques.
3. To know when and how to use those techniques in piping.

BENDING TECHNIQUES PICTURE USE/APPLICATION

This process is used where a consistent
PRESS BENDING cross section of the pipe is not required.
Although a single die can produce various
shapes, it only works for one size tube and
radius.
A precise technology, since it bends using
tooling or "die sets" which have a constant
center line radius (CLR), alternatively
indicated as mean bending radius (Rm) .
Rotary draw benders can be programmable
ROTARY DRAW BENDING to store multiple bend jobs with varying
degrees of bending. Often a positioning
index table (IDX) is attached to the bender
allowing the operator to reproduce complex
bends which can have multiple bends and
differing planes.

During the roll bending process, the pipe,

extrusion, or solid is passed through a series
of rollers (typically three) that apply pressure
to the pipe gradually changing the bend
ROLL BENDING radius in the pipe. The pyramid style roll
benders have one moving roll, usually the
top roll.

The most commonly used freeform-bending

THREE-ROLL PUSH BENDING process to manufacture bending geometries
consisting of several plane bending curves.
Able to feed the tube into the bending zone
by friction. These machines have often a
SIMPLE THREE ROLL BENDING vertical layout, i.e. the three rolls lie on a
vertical plane.

Used to produce bends for a wide range of

applications, such as (thin walled) pipe lines
for both the upstream and downstream and
on- and off shore segments of the
INDUCTION BENDING petrochemical industry, large radius
structural parts for the construction industry,
thick walled, short radius bends for the
power generating industry and city heating
system.

FLARING TECHNIQUES PICTURE USE/APPLICATION

Used by field servicemen because it is quick

SINGLE LAP FLARE to make. It is made by flaring out the end of
a piece of copper tubing to a 45° angle.
Made by belling the end of the piece of
DOUBLE LAP FLARE copper tubing, and then folding it together
so that the flare has two thickness. The
double flare is not commonly used.
