ABSTRACT

The report is presented herewith analyses based on thorough study of the geotechnical

investigation results.

A complete geotechnical investigation was undertaken to obtain the required subsurface

information to study and define the nature and behavior of soil under application of loads of

proposed structures. Such information were obtained through following steps:

By making test bores and collecting disturbed and undisturbed soil samples.

By conducting Standard Penetration Tests.

By testing the soil in laboratory to clarify it and to determine the engineering properties

of soil.

An analysis was made to derive the allowable bearing capacity, taking into consideration with
the future possibilities. Based on such analysis of the soil properties, the conclusions are made

regarding the nature, behaviour and characteristics of soil

Recommendations are also given, after a thorough and careful study of the present soil

conditions, regarding the suitability of the type of foundation, and regarding the precautions
and protective measures to be taken if found necessary.

GENERAL For the proposed construction of building, the sub-soil
investigation to be carried out ON PLOT NO. B-67,
SHAKTINAGAR-GANDHIDHAM, OF SHANKER
LAL NATHURMAL KOURAN.
The object of investigation is to determine the sub
surface conditions and Safe bearing Capacity (S.B.C) at
the site and to provide information that would assist
the Structural Engineer in the design of foundation.

FIELD INVESTIGATION ONE bores of 100 mm. dia bores were put down
to the depth of 4.00 mt. at proposed site of
construction by Our skilled and experienced site
personnel by using Rotary boring.
Standard Penetration Test The standard penetration test was carried out by split
spoon sampler confirming to IS - 2131-1981. The split
spoon sampler assembly is divided in three parts. One
is cutting shoe of 38 mm inside dia and 51 mm out
side diameter with 75 mm length. The second is split
body of same diameter and 508 mm in length. The
third is driving head with ball of same dia meters and
180 mm in length. The drive weight assembly consist
of 65 kg. weight hammer and 750 mm free fall guide
rod.
Before conducting the Standard Penetration Test we
had cleaned the trial pit by shell then lowered thee
S.P.T. sampler with A rod and conducted the
Standard Penetration Test in accordance with IS 2131-
1981.

Undisturbed Sample The undisturbed samples were collected at 3.0 mt.

interval in thin walled sampling tube of 65 mm inside
diameter and 3 mm thick wall tube.

The thin wall sampling tube confirming to IS 2132-

1981 consist of cutting sh0e sampling tube and driving
head with ball. The tests were conducted
accordance with 1S 2132-1981.
LABORATORY TESTING The Laboratory testings should be carried out on both
disturbed and undisturbed samples. The following tests
should be carried out on disturbed / undisturbed samples.

(1) Mechanical Analysis

(2) Atterberg Limit
(3) Specific Gravity
Undisturbed Sample: (1) Field Density
(2) Moisture Content
(3) Grain Size Analysis
(4) Atterberg Limit
(5) Specific Gravity
(6) Direct Shear Test
(7) Triaxial Test
(8) Consolidation Test

(1) The Grain Size Analysis Tests should be carried out

in accordance with IS 2720(Part I)-1985.
(2) The Atterberg limit test apparatus are (1) Casagrand &
(2) Cone Penetrometer in accordance with IS 9259- 1979 and
11196-1985 respectively. We will carry out the Test
by
using both equipments with respect to the soil behaviour
and as per the IS- 2720 ( Part-V)-1985.

(3) Specific Gravity: The specific gravity of the soil

samples should be carried out in accordance with IS-
2720 (Part- 3/Sec-1)-1980 for fine grain soil and IS 2720
(Part-3/ Sec 2)-1980 for medium and coarse grain soil.

(4) Field density and moisture content shoud be carried

out in accordance with IS 2720 (Part-2)-1973.
(5) Direct Shear Test: The direct shear tests should
be carried out by small sixe box shear test in accordance
with IS- 2720 (Part-13 )-1986 and apparatus
confirming to
IS-11229-1985.

(6) Triaxial Test: The Triaxial test should be carried

out in accordance with IS -2720 (Part-11)-1986.
(7) Consolidation Test The Consolidation test Should
be carried out in accordance with IS- 2720 (Part-15)
1986.
SUBSOIL PROFILE The bore log data of the bore holes reveal the soil
formation as follows.

Bore- BH1-

The first layer from 0.0 mt to 0.50 mt depth is

Brownish- clay withs kanker .

The second layer from 0.50 mt to 2.60 mt depth

RECOMMENDATIONS
& CONCLUSIONS
Looking to the site
conditions and type of structures
proposed
ON PLOT NO. B-67, SHAKTINAGAR-GANDHIDHAM, OF SHANKER LAL
NATHURMAL KOURANI.
The following conclusions are drawn and recommendations
are given accordingly.

The net safe bearing capacity for Individual column footing of size 2.0mt X 2.Omt:
Of bore hole BH1.

at a depth of 2.0 mt below G.L is recommended as 16.00 t/m2.

at a depth of 1.80 mt below G.L is recommended as 15.50 t/m2.

2. Ground water table was not encountered below G.L. in the boreholes bh1 at the time of
investigation up to 4m.

3. The top soil is not having any swelling properties and hence can be used for back or plinth

filling purpose.
4. Precautions shall be taken to keep the foundations free from variation in water content due

etc..
to leakages in services lines, rains
5. If the soil strata encountered during actual excavations are found different from strata
mentioned in the Report, the matter should be reported to us for reconsideration.
