ABSTRACT
1
The goal of an automobile's "Automatic built-in hydraulic system" is to provide a
trouble-free jacking mechanism attached to the vehicle frame (chassis) itself to lift the
vehicle without any human effort. This system is controlled by buttons located on the
dashboard. It can be engaged independently on each side of the vehicle.

Four Jacks will be installed, one for each wheel. Either front and rear jacks can be
engaged once simultaneously. Any single jack can also be engaged. This system is very
useful for the elderly and disabled who have difficulty using the manual lever lifter.

A hydraulic jack is used in this system because a hydraulic jack produces more power
than any other system. As oil used in Hydraulics is incompressible it can lift more
weight than a mechanical jack.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

1.1 Overview

In our daily life we have found many people complaining about difficult ways to lift the
vehicle to change the tire or repairing/servicing etc. The Project focuses on how we can
lift the vehicle with minimum human effort. In most garages, a screw jack is employed,
which needs a lot of force and skilled labor. In addition, if a normal vehicle owner wants
to repair a flat tire in the middle of a voyage, he must use his muscle to utilize the
manual jack, which takes a lot of energy. To eliminate these shortcomings, the automatic
built-in hydraulic jack is designed to allow the vehicle to be easily lifted from the
ground. It is made in such a way that anyone without any skills can use it to lift a car
and change the tire with ease. As technology is advancing in the automobile industry
cars are being designed in such a way that it is comfortable and easy to operate,
and many new concepts are implemented day by day as the market demand is
increasing. One such characteristic is the capacity to elevate the vehicle off the ground
by boosting ground clearance; cars become more adaptable and can be used in a variety
of conditions as a result.

16
1.2 Introduction to Jack

A jack is a device that is used to elevate heavy items, often vehicles, so that
reconditioning may be done from underneath. Jacks are used in automobiles to lift them
19
utilizing mechanical advantage rather than human force alone. Hydraulic jacks are more
powerful and can carry heavier loads over longer distances, although mechanical jacks
can lift heavier loads.

1.3 Mechanism to Jack

Hydraulic Jacks

● Hydraulic jacks are mainly used in the workplace and are not mounted on
vehicles in an emergency.

10
Automatic Built-in hydraulic jack system in automobiles

● Hydraulic jacks are operated by a handle that is a lever (a simple mechanism)

in which the handle is pressed against a pivot point which is connected with a
small piston that results in lifting.
3
Types of Hydraulic Jacks

1. Floor Jacks - These jacks are used to lift heavy items from the floor. It is
also used in changing the tires of vehicles.
2. Hydraulic Bottle Jacks - Hydraulic bottle jacks are convenient because
they fit in tight spaces and can create excellent leverage. They feature a longer
1
grip than typical hydraulic jacks and press against a lever that elevates the main
3
lift arm. By employing them, you can obtain a higher lift every stroke.
3. Long Ram Jacks - In layman's terms, it's a hydraulic jack with a large
ram. It has an easy-to-operate lever handle. It is generally utilized for various
2
forms of repair work.
4. Shop Press Jacks - They are particularly effective in press applications
1
where a huge amount of pressure must be generated with minimal effort.

Working
Hydraulic jacks are filled with incompressible fluid like oil which is
20
self-lubricating and stable. Fluid is pressed into a cylinder by a plunger pump
8
when the plunger is pulled it sucks the oil from the reservoir through a suction
check valve and pushes the oil into the cylinder through the discharge check valve
11
as it is pushed in the suction valve ball opens with suction when the plunger is
drawn The discharge valve ball is outside the chamber and lifts and create an
5
opening for the oil which is pushed into the cylinder. At this moment, the suction
valve ball in the chamber is forced close and oil pressure builds in the cylinder.

Screw Jack:
17 1
A screw jack is a type of jack that works by spinning a lead screw to lift the car. It is
typically used to lift huge weights such as house foundations and heavy automobiles.
21
Force applied on the lever is used to raise the load. A small amount of force is enough to
raise large loads. Jack screw threads support heavy loads.
2
Types of Screw Jacks
1. Scissor Jack - A scissor jack is a device that lifts a car for repair or
1
storage using a cross-hatch mechanism similar to that of a scissor. It often only
2
works in a vertical direction. The jack opens and closes, applying pressure on
the bottom supports in a crossing pattern, to move the lift. When closed, they
form a diamond shape. Scissor jacks are simple techniques for transporting
2
large goods over short distances. The power screw design of a conventional
1
scissor jack reduces the amount of force required by the user to drive the
mechanism. Most scissor jacks have a similar architecture, with four primary
parts driven by a power screw. A scissor jack is actuated by rotating a tiny
11
1
Automatic Built-in hydraulic jack system in automobiles

crank fitted into one end. This crank is commonly designed like a "Z." On the
6
scissor jack, the end fits into a ring hole fixed on the end of the screw, which is
the goal of force. The screw spins when the crank is twisted, raising the jack.
1
The screw functions as a gear. It has teeth (screw threads) that revolve and
rotate the two arms, resulting in work. The scissor jack can lift a car weighing
several thousand pounds by just tightening this screw thread.

2. Bumper Jack - They were once popular but are no longer so.

1.4 Comparison of both mechanisms:

● Over time the hydraulic cylinder can creep and get loose piston seals. This
2
is not the case with a screw jack, the lifting mechanism is self-locking so the jack
will not creep even when the drive motor is shut down.
● Screw jacks have self-locking characteristics so they are often preferred.
They can survive harsh conditions with minimum components.
● Screw jacks are used in harsh conditions like mining, steel mills, etc. they
are used for many years in these conditions.
● Its design is simple due to minimal components.
● Hydraulic Jacks are sturdier than screw jacks.

LITERATURE REVIEW

2.1 Background of Jacks

Leonardo da Vinci used a jack in the late 1400s in ancient roman times, he used a thread worm gear
which is rotated by a shaft driving a screw lifting the weight.
During World War II MEchanical Jacks were used very commonly with a capacity of 1.5 tons
During the late 1900s hydraulic jacks evolved and began to be used in many fields

Abstract

A common headache is a side road incident, especially when a tire is punctured.

This paper discussed the development of a car jack for emergency use with
internal cigarette lighter power (12volts). The automatic easy car-jack employed
this power source to conserve persons' internal energy. A gear ratio was utilized to
boost the lifting power. To assure safety and force acting, the automobile jack was
1 13
built in Solidworks® and evaluated using Finite Element Analysis. The car jack
has been tested on a real car and has proven to be commercially viable.

CHAPTER 4
Results, Discussions, and Working
4.1 Our Proposal and modifications.
1
For lifting with a jack power can be driven in the following ways:-
1. It can be directly derived from the engine in neutral gear.
2. it can also be taken from the battery running motor to raise the jack

As of now we are suggesting taking power from the last option mentioned above,
through a battery-operated motor to activate hydraulically.
4.2 Motor Specifications.
Motor Name: MYZ3- 350 W DC motor
Magnet Type: Permanent Magnet
Operating Voltage Of motor: 12 V
Torque of motor: 22 N-m i.e. 225 kg-cm Max.
Operating Current: 13 to 19 A
Motor Type: DC
Max. Power: 350 Watt
Speed of motor: 2000 to 6000 rpm

4.3 Position of the Jacking Mechanism in the car:

4.4 CONTROLLING THE MOVEMENT OF JACKS

Fig 4.3:Controlling of jack

1
Above figure indicates the view of the control panel from the top.

The controlling mechanism is very simple. The user will have to pull the
choke of the valve of the tire which is to be lifted and press and hold the motor
button to lift the car to the desired height.

This way the desired tire can be lifted and the system uses a single motor and
a single oil reservoir which saves the cost and becomes functional.
18

4.5 Merits & Demerits

4.5.1 Merits of using this automatic jacking system

1. Time-saving.
2. Very easy to use
3. Maintenance of vehicles becomes cheap.
4. This is useful for senior citizens, ladies, and people with disabilities
in case of a punctured tire.
2
5. useful for heavy vehicles like trucks and buses as there is the
problem with leaf spring plate
9
6. The car can be lifted with a single press of a button for changing the
tire.

4.5.2 Demerits Of Using This Automatic Jacking System

1. The price will rise marginally.

2. The vehicle's weight will rise somewhat.

4.6 Safety Measures

As we all know drivers can accidentally activate the jacks therefore we have incorporated some
safety measures:
1. The Control panel will be covered with a flap lid, whenever the user wants to activate the
jack he can open the lid and use the control panel.
2. The motor will only run when the ignition is off.
3. The motor will only run when one of the chokes is pulled which will avoid activating the
system accidentally.
4. When the maximum height is achieved the motor circuit will break.

CHAPTER 5
CONCLUSION
5.1 Conclusion
1
An automatic built-in jacking system in automobiles would not only save a person's
effort but will also save one's valuable time in critical situations.
This approach eliminates the need to travel with a traditional mechanical scissor jack. It
is a highly feasible notion that, if handled carefully, will become very popular very
soon.
Motorized mechanical jacks are currently available, however, the jack's design is a
source of worry. The shape and type of the jack must be altered in order for the built-in
jack system to function.
1
Mechanically driven jacks are simple to use, but their efficacy and maintenance
1
may be
a worry because they will be moved with the chassis constantly beneath, increasing the
chances of rusting and damage.
Hydraulic jacks look to be convenient to use and can also be highly effective and easy
to maintain (as totally closed) in the long run; they will also supply greater power;
nevertheless, there are certain hurdles such as keeping low production costs and
designing the jack which can be carried with the chassis given, common ground
clearance level of a vehicle, and keeping the rise in weight of the automobile in range.
Following the successful implementation of the above notion in small passenger cars,
additional design advancements can be made to apply the same in heavy-duty
automobiles as well.
5.2 Societal relevance
9
Sometimes you have to change a flat tire in the middle of the highway with no one
around you because your tire has flattened. It's too difficult to fix a car tire on your own.
It will be much easier to apply this notion when it has been implemented. When it
comes to societal influence, two key effects stand out. For starters, senior citizens who
can still drive on their own can use this jacking device simply by pressing a button.
Second, with a growing number of female drivers, this system is much easier for them
to use, and they can easily use this jacking mechanism without being dependent on
anyone. Last but not least, it has the potential to reduce human effort.

CHAPTER 6
Future Scope
● People seek comfort and ease of operation in every feature as technology advances
and the market expands swiftly.

● Flat tires are a regular problem, and while not everyone can change their tires with a
manual jack, automatic jacking technology will assist in overcoming this issue.

● Additionally, routine vehicle service/reconditioning will be simplified because the

automatic system will elevate the automobile with the push of a button. If this feature
becomes available in modern vehicles, it will quickly become popular. Hence
Automatic built-in jacking mechanisms in automobiles have a promising future.
