SOLVING SERIES PARALELL CIRCUIT USING VOLTAGE & CURRENT DIVIDER RULE

𝑹𝑻 = 𝟓𝒌𝜴 + 𝟑𝒌𝜴 + 𝟐𝒌𝜴 = 𝟏𝟎𝒌𝜴

You can calculate the source current 𝑰𝑺 flowing from 𝑽𝟐 using Ohm’s Law:

𝑽𝟐 𝟏𝟎𝑽
𝑰𝑺 = = = 𝟏𝒎𝑨
𝑹𝑻 𝟏𝟎𝒌𝜴

Since 𝑽𝟐 , 𝑹𝟏 , 𝑹𝟐 and 𝑹𝟑 //(𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 ) are connected in series:

𝑰𝑺 = 𝑰𝑹𝟏 = 𝑰𝑹𝟐 = 𝑰𝑹𝟑//(𝑹𝟒+ 𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔) = 𝟏𝑨

You can calculate the voltage across 𝑹𝟏 ,
𝑹𝟐 and 𝑹𝟑 //(𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 ) by using
𝑹
𝑰𝑺 voltage divider rule:𝑽𝑿 = 𝑽𝑺 ( 𝑿 )
𝑹 𝑻

Voltage at 𝑹𝟑 //(𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 ):

𝑽𝑹𝟑//(𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔)
𝑹𝟑 //(𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 )
= 𝑽𝟐 ( )
𝑹𝑻
𝟐𝒌𝜴
= 𝟏𝟎𝑽 ( ) = 𝟐𝑽
𝟏𝟎𝒌𝜴

Since 𝑹𝟑 is parallel with (𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 ):

𝑽𝑹𝟑//(𝑹𝟒+ 𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔) = 𝑽𝑹𝟑 = 𝑽𝑹𝟒+ 𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔 = 𝟐𝑽

𝑰𝑹𝟑//(𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔)

You can calculate the current flowing

through 𝑹𝟑 and 𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 using Ohm’s
+
Law:

𝑽𝑹 𝟑 𝟐𝑽
𝑽𝑹𝟑//(𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔) 𝑰𝑹𝟑 = = = 𝟏/𝟑𝒎𝑨
𝑹𝟑 𝟔𝒌𝜴

𝑽𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔 𝟐𝑽
- 𝑰𝑹𝟒+ 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 = = = 𝟐/𝟑𝒎𝑨
𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 𝟑𝒌𝜴

𝑹
OR using current divider rule: 𝑰𝑿 = 𝑰𝑺 ( 𝑻 )
𝑹 𝑿

𝑹𝟑 //(𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 𝟐𝒌𝜴

𝑰𝑹𝟑 = 𝑰𝑹𝟑 //(𝑹𝟒+ 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔) ( ) = 𝟏𝑨 ( ) = 𝟏/𝟑𝒎𝑨
𝑹𝟑 𝟔𝒌𝜴
𝑹𝟑 //(𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 𝟐𝒌𝜴
𝑰𝑹𝟒+ 𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔 = 𝑰𝑹𝟑//(𝑹𝟒+ 𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔) ( ) = 𝟏𝑨 ( ) = 𝟐/𝟑𝒎𝑨
𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 𝟑𝒌𝜴
𝑰(𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔) You can calculate the voltage across 𝑹𝟒 and
𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 by using voltage divider rule.

To find the voltage at 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 use voltage

divider:

𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔
𝑽𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔 = 𝑽𝑹𝟒+ 𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔 ( )
+ 𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔

𝑽𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔 𝟏𝒌𝜴
𝑽𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔 = 𝟐𝑽 ( ) = 𝟐/𝟑𝑽
𝟑𝒌𝜴
-

𝑰𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔

Since 𝑹𝟓 is parallel with 𝑹𝟔 :

+
𝑽𝑹𝟓 = 𝑽𝑹𝟔 = 𝟐/𝟑𝑽
𝑽𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔
Since 𝑹𝟒 and 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 are connected in
- series:

𝑰𝑹𝟒 + 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 = 𝑰𝑹𝟒 = 𝑰𝑹𝟓//𝑹𝟔 = 𝟐/𝟑𝒎𝑨

You can calculate the current flowing through 𝑹𝟓 and 𝑹𝟔 using Ohm’s Law:

𝑽𝑹 𝟓 𝟐/𝟑𝑽
𝑰𝑹𝟓 = = = 𝟏/𝟑𝒎𝑨
𝑹𝟓 𝟐𝒌𝜴
𝑽𝑹 𝟐/𝟑𝑽
𝑰𝑹𝟔 = 𝟔= = 𝟏/𝟑𝒎𝑨
𝑹𝟔 𝟐𝒌𝜴

Or using divider rule:

𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 𝟏𝒌𝜴
𝑰𝑹𝟓 = 𝑰𝑹𝟒+ 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 ( ) = 𝟐/𝟑𝒎𝑨 ( ) = 𝟏/𝟑𝒎𝑨
𝑹𝟓 𝟐𝒌𝜴
𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 𝟏𝒌𝜴
𝑰𝑹𝟔 = 𝑰𝑹𝟒+ 𝑹𝟓 //𝑹𝟔 ( ) = 𝟐/𝟑𝒎𝑨 ( ) = 𝟏/𝟑𝒎𝑨
𝑹𝟔 𝟐𝒌𝜴
