6. HOW TO WORK WITH GRAPHS

Crude birth rate indicates the number of live births occurring during the year, per 1,000
population estimated at midyear. Subtracting the crude death rate from the crude birth rate
provides the rate of natural increase, which is equal to the rate of population change in the
absence of migration.

 WHAT STAGE IS IT?

It’s on stage 2, because mostly, birth rate is very high and death rate is rate is low.

 CALCULATE NATURAL INCREASE/DECREASSE IN 1970

Birth rate 1, 2 – death rate 1, 0 = 200.000 natural increase 1970

1, 0 death rate – birth rate 1, 2 = -200.000 natural decrease 1970

 CALCULATE NATURAL INCREASE/DECREASE IN 1980

Birth rate 1, 2 – death rate 1, 3 = -100.000 natural increase (technically its natural decrease cause
there is more death)

Death rate 1, 3 – birth rate 1, 2 = 100.000 natural decrease

 CAN YOU THINK WHY POPULATION HAS ABRUPTLY GROWN SINCE 2000?
Because medical care started to improve so less people died. Also doctors and scientist
discovered the cure to lots of diseases. More people started to immigrate to Switzerland.
