Present Simple

The sun is bright.


Pigs don’t fly
Cats are better than dogs
It’s cold in winter
Examples of Present Simple

I always eat lunch at noon.

You play games every day

They study English every Monday

Seth starts work at 9 am daily
We also use Present Simple with
non-continuous verbs.

I love my mom

It smells good

Arman feels happy

They need help
it’s possible and it’s common to use
the present simple to talk about
something that will happen in the
near future

I have class at 6 pm

Lisa arrives on Sunday

We start work soon

My students come tomorrow
In negative sentence we use „do
not“ or „does not“

Mike eats bread

Mike doesn’t eat bread


You swim well

You don’t swim well
In questions we put Do or Does in
the beginning of the question
sentence

They live here

Do they live here?


He play soccer

Does he play soccer?
Present Continouos Tense
Use this tense for actions happening
at the moment of speaking, and not
finished. It’s also used for action
happening around the time of
speaking

Sorry, I’m busy at the moment. I’m doing my
homework.

I’m reading a really interesting book
In negative we add „not“ to the verb
Be

I’m not having fun

Jane isn’t doing her homework

Let’s look at Wh questions:

What are you doing?

Where are you going?

When is it starting?

Who is she talking to?

Why is she crying?

How is it going?
Now I’m going to introduce the
Present Perfect Tense

This tense can be used to talk about an action
that happened in the past, but when it
happened is not very important or it’s unknown.

It can also be used to talk about an action that
started in the past and continues in the present.

And finally, we use this tense to talk about a
recent action.
Examples of Present Prefect Tense

I have been to Canada

My cousins have seen the movie

Arman has gone home

My phone has been fixed
Examples of Present Perfect

I have worked there since 2002

You have had a car since last year

We have eaten lunch here for 3 weeks
Negative form of Present Perfect

I haven’t been to Europe

It hasn’t rained for 3 months

My sons haven’t played soccer since 2015

Arman has eaten lunch

Has Arman eaten lunch?


They have watched the video

Have they watched the video?
Wh questions in Present Perfect

Where has Arman been?

What countries have you visited?

Who has she talked to?

How long have you been married?
Present Perfect Continuous Tense

This tense can be used about the action that
started in the past and continues in the present.

It can also be used to talk about an action that
hasn’t happened recently

And finally, it can also be used to talk about an
action that recently stopped

Charles has been studying English for an hour

Lily has been playing the piano for 2 years

It has been growing since June
