This document provides instructions and materials for a "Polar Animal Roll-and-Tally" math center activity, including an instruction sheet, polar animal cube or spinner, tally sheets, and a student recording sheet. Students will roll or spin 25 times to tally which polar animal they land on, then circle the animal(s) that were rolled or spun the most. The activity is designed to teach tally marks and can be used whole group or individually.

*b&w version of tally sheet ~Super Fun way to teach about ‘tally’ marks! ~Play over & over- each time the results will differ! ~Aligns with Common Core Standards! ~Excellent math center! ~Can be done in both whole & small group! ~Coordinates well with an ‘Polar Animal’ unit to provide consistency in your curriculum! ~Polar Animals~ ‘Roll-a-tally’/ ‘Spin-a-tally’ Print dice on cardstock, cut, build & tape edges for reinforcement OR Print Spinner & laminate- use a paper clip & pencil as the ‘spinner’ Color version: Laminate recording sheet (or slip into a sheet protector) and provide dry erase markers for recording B&W version: Students record answers using pencil For both: Prior to using teach students how to ‘tally’ (can do this as a whole group activity by projecting the recording sheet on an Eno/Smart board and have students in class take turns rolling/spinning and then recording on large version on screen) Students roll dice (or spinner)- use a tally to record which arctic animal they rolled./spun Students roll/spin a total of 25 times (number line provided so they can cross off as they roll to keep track) Students circle picture(s) that have the most Created by Jennifer Drake http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/store/jennifer-drake Created by Jennifer Drake http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/store/jennifer-drake Polar Animal roll & tally
