(INTRODUCTION)

1.0 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Human perception and virtual reality have become a controversial topic for us, so we searched
for answers as to what their connection is to each other. As we studied this discussion, we learned
that virtual reality is a great help in our current future. Virtual reality has many causes in our daily
lives, how? Just like now that we are still facing a pandemic, we use technologies and social
media to communicate with people, just like in online classes, in online class we will only face our
cell phones or computers to study and this can be called virtual reality because, we use technology
to make our schooling and classes more realistic even if we are just at home and far away to
each other.

Virtual reality study finds our perception of our body and environment affects how we feel:
interaction of bodily, spatial cues serves to regulate emotions and exploratory behavior and it is
how you create a perception of things, and what tricks you can use to manipulate the visual
environment to create that perception. Here we realize that virtual reality has a connection with
human perception and in this research we will show you why and how human perception is
connected to virtual reality and why it is important to us to have a virtual reality especially we are
in this current future where technology is the most used thing.

1.1 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims to find out virtual reality and its connection to human perception to
answer this matter, the following questions were raised:
1. What is virtual reality and human perception?

1.1 What is the connection of these two?

2. Why is it important for us to know this topic?

3. How did these two topics become connected?

3.1 Are they just the same?

4. What is the importance of virtual reality in our real life?

4.1 Do we use it in our daily lives?

1.2 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Our purpose for this research is to study the connection between virtual reality and
human perception.
- What are the main traits of VR that are similar to Human Perception?
- How can we differentiate VR to Human Perception?
- Is it possible to manipulate a person’s perception of reality using VR?
- And most importantly, why does VR and Human Perception have a connection to
each other?
Our study’s significance is to answer these questions and provide knowledge to people
who are curious regarding to our topic and these questions. I believe our research is
significant since VR or Virtual Reality is becoming well known by the world and it can
have a connection with Human Perception since it is about our perception of reality and
virtual reality.

1.3 SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

Our study will be focusing mainly about the connection between Virtual Reality and Human
Perception. We will be focusing on the primary traits of Virtual Reality and why it is connected to
Human Perception. We will also focus on how Virtual Reality can manipulate Human Perception.
As for the limitation of our study, we will not be focusing about the increasing fame of virtual
reality. Because we believe it not essential to our topic. We will also not be focusing in the history
of human perception. Since our study is mainly focused in the connection of Virtual Reality and
Human Perception.

1.4 DEFINITION OF TERMS

Throughout our research, we will use the terms “Virtual Reality”, “Human Perception”,
and “Connection”. Virtual Reality Virtual reality is a simulated experience that can be
similar to or completely different from the real world.
Applications of virtual reality include entertainment, education and business. Human
Perception can be defined as our recognition and interpretation of sensory information.
Perception also includes how we respond to the information.
We can think of perception as a process where we take in sensory information from our
environment and use that information in order to interact with our environment.
Connection A relationship in which a person, thing, or idea is linked or associated with
something else.
CHAPTER 2
(REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES)

2.0 FOREIGN LITERATURE

According to Rebecca Guenard(2017), Virtual Reality is helping therapists to treat PTSD,

allowing medical students to do virtual operations, and letting engineers test vehicle
safety before the car is built. But in order to provide a genuine experience through virtual
reality (VR), manufacturers must first understand how vision works in the real world. And
understanding a complex system like vision requires advances on multiple fronts. At Penn
Arts and Sciences, psychologists and physicists are looking more closely at the basics of
how we see. Five years ago he started collecting photographs in an effort to figure out
one question about the human visual system: Why is the retina equipped with so many
dark spot detectors? He assembled a series of images of natural landscapes in Botswana,
in areas unaltered by human intrusion and similar to where the human eye is thought to
have evolved.
Balasubramanian and collaborators David Brainard, RRL Professor of Psychology, and
Peter Sterling, now an emeritus professor of neuroscience, analyzed the photos pixel by
pixel to evaluate the amount of contrast that exists in our natural surroundings. Another
article proposed Nishtha Vats(2020) explains how we can use VR. He said that simulating
the vision and creating an immersive 3-D environment are the primary aims of VR
headsets or Head-Mounted displays. VR headsets put up a screen in front of the eyes and
cut-off all interaction and visual input from the real world. Two autofocus lenses are fitted
between the screen and the eyes which adjust themselves based on the eye positioning
and movement of the user. The visuals on the screen are played using a mobile phone
or HDMI cable connected to some other device. According to Nishtha, audio and video if
synced perfectly can have very engaging results in virtual reality. A headphone and a 3-
D sound system make the experience more ‘Realistic’. Choosing the correct and enhanced
sound effects and music gives the user the feel of actually existing in a different plane.
2.1 LOCAL LITERATURE

According to Aineena Hani(2021), Augmented reality or Virtual reality in education can

serve a number of purposes. It helps the students easily acquire, process, and remember
the information. Additionally, AR/VR makes learning itself more engaging and fun. A
Philippine health-tech company in collaboration with Museo Pambata – a children’s
interactive museum that has been inspiring Filipino children to discover and experience
life beyond the classrooms – have launched an Augmented Reality mobile application to
support Filipino parents in encouraging healthy growth and brain development in their
children. This health-tech company has been dedicated to helping people live healthier
and fuller lives in the Philippines for over 80 years through life-changing technologies and
products for people of all ages.
The mobile app has been designed to stimulate and nurture children’s curiosity, problem-
solving, and logical thinking skills. It also provides the benefit of learning through
interactive experiences. Rather than a traditional field trip, which is usually part of the
school curriculum, the platform will provide access to virtual tours and immersive
experiences in the arts, culture, and science. The mobile app will feature its first jointly
created virtual tour, “Batang Katutubo” that offers a look into Philippine cultural heritage
and provide children with three different experiences. The “Musika” exhibit encourages
kids to try their hand at playing traditional musical instruments such as the libit and
gangsa. Seed planting games in the “Kalikasan” exhibit help children learn more about
local plants and conserving the environment. The “Kasuotan” exhibit gives them the
opportunity to try on various native costumes through the power of Augmented Reality
(AR).
CHAPTER 3
(METHODOLOGY)

3.0 RESEARCH DESIGN

Our study was made by the means of qualitative methods of the researchers since our research
study required people as our interviewees in order to get the information that we need for our
study.

We were determined to find people to be our interviewees in order to get the answers that we
need for our research. Our research study required people who knew about virtual reality and
human perception so we could ask them for their consent to be our interviewees.

3.1 POPULATION

We will gather information, experience, knowledge, and opinions through interviewing a

population of people who are experts in virtual reality or those who have experienced it,
and those who study human perception. We would gain an understanding about our
research study through this methodology of acquiring information from our samples.

3.2 SAMPLING METHOD

We had many attempts of using many methods to find our samples for our research study.
But we found our samples by using Convenience sampling. One of our group mates acquired
our participants by their availability and their willingness to participate in our study.

3.3 DATA COLLECTION PROCEDURE

We collected all the information we put into this research paper in such a way that we searched
for possible answers to the questions that is connected to our research topic which is “virtual
reality and human perception” and we put it together to form a conclusions that can corroborate
our research.

We collected all the information we put into this research paper in such a way that we searched
for possible answers to the questions connected to our research topic which is “virtual reality and
human perception” and we put it together to form a conclusions that can corroborate our
research. We also helped in finding information about our research by doing a group chat and
we assigned each other a task so that we could all gather information and contribute to our
research.

In gathering information or data about this research, we also sought the help of our elderly
acquaintances who know how to produce a research paper correctly and properly. We also
watched some videos about the connection of virtual reality and human perception. And after we
collected data and details regarding our research, we typed and combined it all together to form
our research paper.

3.4 DATA ANALYSIS

We have analyzed our data which was collected from our samples and from the internet.
And so far, we have analyzed from our data and according to our analysis, Virtual Reality
helps us to move closer to our goals to investigating human perception in a controlled
and principled way. According from our analyzed data from our sample, Virtual Reality if
not used properly can have many harmful effects to our body and even to our perception
like damaged visionary perception.
But besides its harmful effects, Virtual Reality can also help people with mental health
issues as VR can be used for meditation and imaginary things which can somehow cure
the mentally ill people. But Virtual Reality can be also dangerous according to our analysis
of our gathered data because VR can manipulate our perception of reality. We might
believe something is actually happening when in reality it is not.
CHAPTER 4
(REESULTS AND DISCUSSION)

4.0 INTRODUCTION

In this chapter we will present what our interviewees discussed and combine to produce a data
that will show their most answer. Also here in this chapter you can see the data matrix where,
you can see the responses of the interviewees and here in this chapter it is almost just a base
and summarization of our research interview with those people.

4.1 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The statement of the problem in our research study is the lack of information about virtual
reality and human perception. It’s either because of the reason that it’s not a well-known topic
or it isn’t an interest of other researchers.

CASE SUMMARY
In the beginning, we gathered information about the research topic we had in mind. After we
collected all the enough information we immediately started making our research paper, at first
we thought it was a bit easy but when we got to chapter 4 we had a hard time. But before the
unpleasant difficulty took place we first made questions about our topic, and we looked for
someone who could be interviewed. We interviewed seven people to answer our questions and
by the time we were here we had proceeded to the difficult part of the research to put in what
was said in the interview. After doing the matrix data we proceeded to the requirements in
chapter 4 and continued to chapter 5 and when we finished it immediately.

CATEGORY BASED ANALYSIS

Most of our interviewees aged 17 and over prefer virtual reality and said it helps them more in
the way they use it. As two of our respondents said, it helps people especially those with
diseases such as stress, anxiety, depression and others. One of our respondents said that it
helps him because virtual reality helps him enhance his communication skills. Based on our
record, 90% that virtual reality helps and 10% that it does not help according to the information
we gathered in our interviewees.

4.3 DISCUSSION AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

We researchers conducted matrix data in part or chapter of this research. We took every detail
we could gather to be sure that our unified documentation was correct. I and my teammates also
worked together to produce proper data for this research.

What is a data matrix? Data matrices are a way of displaying qualitative data in a format where
it is readily accessible for the process of analysis and interpretation. Additionally, although the
main purpose of matrices is as a way of illustrating various types of data, they can also be used
as part of the qualitative data analysis process.

CHAPTER 5
(SUMMARY OF FINDINGS)

In this final chapter of our research study, we will explain our summary of findings and we
will also discuss our conclusion in this chapter of our research study. We will also discuss here
our recommendations regarding our study. And we will also talk about the discussion and
Interpretation of Data.

5.0 SUMMARY

So to sum it all up, our research study is all about the connection of Virtual Reality and
Human Perception. It focuses on their connection, their difference, their dangerous
effects, and their benefits to us.
We identified the statement of the problem, the significance or purpose of our study, we
collected and analyzed data through methodology, and finally provided a solution to our
research problem.

5.1 CONCLUSIONS

For the conclusion of our research, we shall say that we believe that we have filled the
gap in our research problem. We believe that with our efforts of identifying the statement
of the problem, realizing the significance of our study, defining the Scope and Limitation
of our study, defining the terms in our research, finding topics related to ours, and using
methodology to find our samples and collect data and analyze it.
We have finally found the solution to our research problem and have come up with the
conclusion that, Virtual Reality and Human Perception, will always be connected in every
aspect.

5.2 RECOMMENDATIONS

Our group suggests that you should share this research topic that we have prepared to
the internet so that researchers would be aware of this kind of problem and they might
be interested in taking a look into the topic that we have proposed.
It Is also recommended that you should do a deeper research about our topic because
you might be able to identify or see a problem in which we may have not seen or
identified. To this end, our group offers you 4 recommendations to help you on our
research. Recommendation 1: Find more details about Virtual Reality and all the questions
about it.
Recommendation 2. Use Research methodology in order to acquire knowledge from
experts of Virtual Reality and Human Perception. Recommendation 3: Always look up on
