SELF- EVALUATION: Fill-in the table below to self-assess the lesson. Make your answer brief
but concise.

1. What is a scientific revolution?

Answer: The word "scientific revolution" refers to improvements in different fields
of science that have pioneered the current way to do things. Instead of just
relying on prior experience, scientists began to use practical experimentation and
findings to draw conclusions. During the 16th and 17th centuries, the Scientific
Revolution ushered in a sea change in scientific thought. During the Scientific
Revolution, a new outlook on nature appeared, displacing the Greek perspective
that had dominated science for nearly 2,000 years. Changing conceptions of the
scientist's role in relation to nature, as well as the importance of experimental and
empirical evidence, led to a scientific methodology in which empiricism played a
significant, but not absolute, role during the scientific revolution.

2. What are the common things that these personalities contribute to the scientific
revolution?
Answer: Johannes Kepler was a leading astronomer of the Scientific Revolution
known for formulating the Laws of Planetary Motion. Another contribution of
Kepler, was a refracting telescope that was an improvement on Galileo's
design.Galileo: An Italian thinker (1564-1642) and key figure in the scientific
revolution who improved the telescope, made astronomical observations, and
put forward the basic principle of relativity in physics. Isaac Newton's research on
motion helped give credibility to the heliocentric view. Newton also helped
pioneer telescopic innovations, and he is sometimes credited with inventing the
first reflecting telescope. He also conducted experiments using the prism, and
developed a theory about the nature of color and light. The discoveries of
Johannes Kepler and Galileo gave the theory credibility, also the work culminated
in Isaac Newton's principia, formulated the laws of motion and gravitation that
dominated scientist view of the physical universe foe the next three centuries.

4. How the notion of “ heliocentricism” had blown to the mind of humanity with the
word “narcissism”? You may enrich your reading through the link
https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/cross-check/copernicus-darwin-and-freud-a-
tale-of-science-and-narcissism/
Answer: The notion that heliocentrism was a blow to humanity’s narcissism is
commonly attributed to Freud. Humanity has had to withstand two big attacks on
its fragile self-love at the hands of science over the course of history. The first
was when it discovered that our planet was not the center of the universe, but
just a tiny speck in a vast world-system; this is synonymous with the name of
Copernicus in our minds, though Alexandrian doctrines taught something very
similar. Second was when biological experimentation deprived man of his unique
privilege of being uniquely made, relegating him to a descent from the animal
world, suggesting an indelible animal existence in him: this transvaluation was
carried out in our own day, at the instigation of Charles Darwin, Wallace, and their
forerunners, and not without fierce resistance from their contemporaries.

5. What was the discovery by Siddharta Shiromani? How it is important nowadays?

WHY?
Answer: Siddhanta Shiromani (Crown of treatises) is the major treatise of Indian
mathematician Bhāskaracharya II. He wrote the Siddhanta Shiromani in 1150 when
he was 36 years old. The work is composed in the Sanskrit Language in 1450
verses, which tackled problems of finding areas under parabolas and inside
spirals, and he solved how to find the volume of the sphere, spherical segments,
and the paraboloid. It is essential nowadays because it work with differential
calculus and its application to astronomical problems and computations.

6. Who discovered the first clinical trial? How it is important in today’s modern
medical development
Answer: James Lind is considered the first physician to have conducted a
controlled clinical trial of the modern era. Dr Lind (1716-94), while working as a
surgeon on a ship, was appalled by the high mortality of scurvy amongst the
sailors. Clinical trials are important for discovering new treatments for diseases,
as well as new ways to detect, diagnose, and reduce the chance of developing
the disease. Clinical trials can show researchers what does and doesn't work in
humans that cannot be learned in the laboratory or in animals.
7. Fill in the table the necessary accomplishments prior to the development in
