ABSTRACT

In this emerging world of computers all most all manual system automated and
computerized but maximum of them are so complex and a common user is unable to

operate that software system. We are developing the “Online Train ticket reservation
System”

to model the present system and to remove the drawbacks.

This project explores how computer technology can be used to solve

the problem of user. We specifically props way to computerize the

administration and engineering offices of Indian Railway Online. A high

speed communication network needs to be developed for interconnecting the

offices of railways. This same communication network can be used to

provide high speed internet connection to the public and leas out network

capacity to internet service providers.

INTRODUCTION

Indian Railway:

Indian Railways is an Indian state-owned enterprise, owned and operated by the Government

of India through the Ministry of Railways. It is one of the world's largest railway networks
comprising 115,000 km (71,000 mi) of track over a route of 65,000 km (40,000 mi) and
7,500 stations. As of December 2012, it transported over 25 million passengers daily (over 9
billion on an annual basis). In 2011, IR carried over 8,900 million passengers' annually or
more than 24 million passengers daily (roughly half of which were suburban passengers) and
2.8 million tons of freight daily. In 2011–2012 Indian Railways had revenues of  1119848.9
million (US$17 billion) which consists of  696759.7 million (US$11 billion) from freight
and  286455.2 million (US$4.4 billion) from passengers tickets.

Railways were first introduced to India in 1853 from Bombay to Thane. In 1951 the systems
were nationalized as one unit, the Indian Railways, becoming one of the largest networks in
the world. IR operates both long distance and suburban rail systems on a multi-
gauge network_broad-meter and narrow gauges.it_also locomotive and coach production
facilities at several places in India and are assigned codes identifying their gauge, kind of
power and type of operation. Its operations cover twenty eight states and seven union
territories and also provide limited international services to Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Indian Railways is the world's ninth largest commercial or utility employer, by number of

employees, with over 1.4 million employees. As for rolling stock, IR holds over
239,281 Freight Wagons, 59,713 Passenger Coaches and 9,549 Locomotives (43 steam,
5,197 diesel and 4,309 electric locomotives). The trains have a 5 digit numbering system as
the Indian Railways runs about 10,000 trains daily. As of 31 March 2013, 23,541 km
(14,628 mi) (36%) of the total 65,000 km (40,000 mi) km route length was electrified. Since
1960, almost all electrified sections on IR use 25,000 Volt AC traction through overhead
centenary delivery
OBJECTIVE:
objective of the online railway ticket reservation system Project is to design
software to fully automate the process of issuing a railway ticket. That is:-
1. To create a database of the trains
2. To search the trains it’s arrival and departure time, distance between source
and destination.
3.To check the availability of the ticket.
4. To calculate fare.
5.To book the ticket.
6.To cancel the ticket if necessary

SCOPE:
Online train ticket reservation System is an integrated software developed for

train operating companies. The main aim of this project is to help the train

management to manage their customers, vehicles, and agent. It makes all

operation of the train management easy and accurate. The standalone

platform makes train management easy by handing agencies requests and

providing servers for the customers located at different parts of the various

cities. Different modules have been incorporated in this project to handle

different parts and sector of the train management field.

PROJECT ANALYSIS

EXISTING SYSTEM:

 This existing system is not providing secure registration and profile management of
all the users properly.
 This system doesn’t provide tracking of user’s activities and their progress.
 This manual system gives us very less security for saving data and some data may be
lost due to mismanagement.
 This system is not providing proper events information.
 The system is giving manual information through the event management executer.

PROPOSED SYSTEM:

 The proposed system is a web-based application and maintains a centralized

repository of all related information.
 The system allows one to easily access the relevant information and make necessary
event arrangements.
 Banquet software manage wedding and marriage hall booking, banquet billing, and
banquet POS System in India.

STUDY OF THE SYSTEM:

To provide flexibility to the users, the interfaces have been developed that are
accessible through a browser. The GUI’S at the top level have been categorized as

 Administrative user interface

 The operational or generic user interface.

The ‘administrative user interface’ concentrates on the consistent information that

is practically, part of the organizational activities and which needs proper authentication for
the data collection. These interfaces help the administrators with all the transactional states
like Data insertion, Data deletion and Date updating along with the extensive data search
capabilities.
The ‘operational or generic user interface’ helps the end users of the system in transactions
through the existing data and required services. The operational user interface also helps the
ordinary users in managing their own information in a customized manner as per the included
flexibilities.

FEASIBILITY STUDY:

A feasibility study is a high-level capsule version of the entire System analysis and Design
Process. The study begins by classifying the problem definition. Feasibility is to determine if
it’s worth doing. Once an acceptance problem definition has been generated, the analyst
develops a logical model of the system. A search for alternatives is analysed carefully.
There are 3 parts in feasibility study.

OPERATIONAL FEASIBILITY:

Operational feasibility is the measure of how well a proposed system solves the problems,
and takes advantage of the opportunities identified during scope definition and how it
satisfies the requirements identified in the requirements analysis phase of system
development. The operational feasibility assessment focuses on the degree to which the
proposed development projects fits in with the existing business environment and objectives
with regard to development schedule, delivery date, corporate culture and existing business
processes. To ensure success, desired operational outcomes must be imparted during design
and development. These include such design-dependent parameters as reliability,
maintainability, supportability, usability, producibility, disposability, sustainability,
affordability and others. These parameters are required to be considered at the early stages of
design if desired operational behaviours are to be realised. A system design and development
require appropriate and timely application of engineering and management efforts to meet the
previously mentioned parameters. A system may serve its intended purpose most effectively
when its technical and operating characteristics are engineered into the design. Therefore,
operational feasibility is a critical aspect of systems engineering that needs to be an integral
part of the early design phases.
TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY:

This involves questions such as whether the technology needed for the system exists,
how difficult it will be to build, and whether the firm has enough experience using that
technology. The assessment is based on outline design of system requirements in terms of
input, processes, output, fields, programs and procedures. This can be qualified in terms of
volume of data, trends, frequency of updating in order to give an introduction to the
technical system. This is technically feasible. The technical feasibility assessment is
focused on gaining an understanding of the present technical resources of the organization
and their applicability to the expected needs of the proposed system. It is an evaluation of
the hardware and software and how it meets the need of the proposed system.

ECONOMICAL FEASIBILITY:

Establishing the cost-effectiveness of the proposed system i.e., if the benefits do not
outweigh the costs, then it is not worth going ahead. In the fast-paced world today there is
a great need of online social networking facilities. Thus, the benefits of this project in the
current scenario make it economically feasible. The purpose of the economic feasibility
assessment is to determine the positive economic benefits to the organization that the
proposed system will provide. It includes quantification and identification of all the
benefits expected. This assessment typically involves a cost/benefits analysis.

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

After careful analysis the system has been identified to have the following modules:

1. Administrator module
2. User module
