Unsettled Today & This Weekend – Coastal Hazards Continue


Overview: Stalled front across the area today will move offshore tonight, with dry air
moving in from northwest Thursday. Decreased convection Thursday and Friday,
focused on sea breeze Thursday and southern areas Friday. A prolonged period of
wet weather may develop late in the weekend into early next week. Full moon will
combine with tropical swells to create hazards along the coast.

Impacts: 0.5-1.5” of rain forecasted for coastal counties through Wednesday night.
Localized flooding in poor drainage areas may develop with heavier rain rates.

Unsettled Today & This Weekend – Coastal Hazards Continue


Overview: Upcomiong full moon Saturday morning will combine with increasing
swells from Hurricane Earl to bring minor flooding to coastal areas along with
enhanced rip current risk, especially along east-facing beaches.

• Minor coastal flooding along Cape Fear River at Downtown Wilmington expected
to continue during nighttime high tides into the weekend. Latest forecast here.

• Beaches may also be subject to minor coastal flooding and beach erosion late
this week and this weekend. Latest forecast for Wrightsville and Myrtle Beach.

• High rip current risk for beaches north of Cape Fear (New Hanover and Pender
counties) through Thursday, with moderate risk to the south.
- Elevated rip risk will continue Friday into the weekend, especially for
east-facing beaches. Latest beach forecast here.
